disarming ships

I just finished playing the campaign as the Empire

And it got me wondering how long would it take to destroy all the ion cannons, lasers and turbolasers on an ISD or Mon Calamari Cruiser in reality? It seemed awfully quick to take out a bank of turbo lasers. I mean even if you engaged an ISD with multiple y-wing squadrons the thing must have like 250-200 on the front of it alone. Then again I guess a Mon Calamari would have the same amount so it might not take too long. It would have been nice to have the real amount of lasers on the ship and use a counter when they get destroyed. Say the y-wing attack and destroy 30 tubolasers then you have 170 left. Assuming the ISD starts with 200.

Well, it's a game.

But to answer your question, some of the guns are packed close together. Once the shields go down, a single strafing run by a fighter could easily take out 3-4 emplacements if they were close enough.

And concentrated torpedo strikes can tear deep into the ship, disabling the power to an entire section of guns without actually destroying them.

you dont have to think of it that way, though i suppose you could. just think that the little green dot and a circle represents any number of unseen turrets, the battery or bank mentioned earlier, that isnt necissarily confined to that dot, ie can spread the entire side of the ship.

but yeh its a game :p

one thing i would like to see though is a small ammount of hull HP on the ship, rather than just having a ship made up of hardpoints. i understand that the hardpoints arent just guns its the armour on that side etc but it would be cool to be able to knock out everything on a ship and still have it sitting there, to tease it :p

A single ISD only actually has like 6 Turbolaser batteries. I remember this 'cos I pulled out my old cross sections book with the data in it. The batteries are located on the upper side of the ship, where the tower structure starts to rise. So technically an ISD couldn't bring it's turbo lasers to bear if a ship is underneath it.

They're covered in smaller laser batteries though, these are used to target smaller craft (ie fighters/corvettes).

I do understand what you're saying though!!
