piffpaffpoff
Hey I just re-installed Grim onto my new computer (AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 6600GT, 1Gb RAM) and when I go the menu by pressing F1 all I see is the logo for the game but no writing. Is there a way to fix this? Piff
Thrik
Hmm, never come across that one before. The only thing that makes your system different from mine is that you have a 64bit Athlon, while mine (and most people who still play it I'd imagine) are still 32bit. Perhaps that move to a new architecture is what has hurt Grim. I'm not really sure how this might be fixed, since I assume you have the latest drivers and stuff for your machine. You could try using the XP backwards compatibility menu (right click the exe, compatibility, Windows 98), but I wouldn't hold much hope. Sadly, Grim is becoming increasingly more problematic as technology moves on. I'm hoping that the ScummVM team who started work on Residual to fix up Grim for modern times will resume development once Windows Vista and such comes out, which is almost guaranteed to introduce even more problems. As for now, though...
piffpaffpoff
Thanks for the reply mate, but I'm afraid to say I have tried the compatibility menu. I have the latest drivers from my machine and I'm still on 32bit Windows. I'll keep trying and hopefully I'll manage
Benny
Its also possible that Grim doesnt like your 3d drivers, try forcing it into software mode. Get my Grim Fandango Launcher and run the game in windowed mode (windowed mode is software rendering only).
gwur
Create a shotcut to GRIMFANDANGO.EXE and right click on it -> properties -> compatability -> run in compatibility mode 98 Mode worked well for me.
