stingerhs
i so found my Oblivion replacement now that i've finally gotten a bit bored with it. the game was a bit hard to find, and according to a couple of other web forums i've been to, its been hard to find period even though the game was released earlier in the week. anyways, for those that haven't heard of Dark Star One, the game falls under the category of a space sim. the concept is that you own a ship, and you have the ability to fly around the galaxy as a lone gun, so to speak. you have the option of playing as a pirate, mercenary, bounty hunter, smuggler, or a merchant. from what i hear, the gameplay is similar to 'Freelancer' which was released a couple years ago. where this game is different is that can't really pick the ship you start out in. instead, the ship levels up and transforms into the style of ship you want it to be as you play through the game. as far as my opinion is concerned, the game is very addictive and fairly simple to pick up and play. combat is quite satisfying, and the economy system that drives the smuggler, piracy, and merchant aspects is as simple as buying low and selling high. the game runs fairly smoothly with no major hitches except for the occasional HD paging, but those instances are fairly rare. quite frankly, i've gotten used to it when playing Oblivion, anyway. the graphics quality is very high, but it scales fairly well on lower-end systems (i tested my R9700 to see exactly how well it scales). the audio quality is also quite good, but they didn't vary the audio tracks very well. the same music can get a bit repetitive after a while. anyways, has anybody else seen this game, or has it?? RedHawke
I read about it a few months ago, but forgot about it. Nice to know it is finally released, and that it is worth buying. Repetitive music doesn't bother me that much... I used to play a game called Uncharted Waters and that will cure you of minding this sort of thing in short order. Char Ell
What?! No link to the developer's website? Easily remedied. DarkStar One - Ascaron Entertainment UK Looks like a game I would be interested in. Ascaron has also released a mod toolset for this game. After KotOR I don't know if I'll ever be satisfied with non-moddable games again. It's the sci-fi games I go for anyway and I need a new game to play. Unfortunately I don't have much time for gaming in general right now. Apparently Take 2 is this game's publisher in the U.S. I found the game is available for order on Amazon.com
Vaelastraz
How does the full game compare to Freelancer? Freelancer was great... way more atmospheric than Dark Star one (from what i've seen in game magazine videos)
