so if I dont have troops in planet it wont be protected and the buildings will do nothing?

EDIT: Okay, let me refrace this. Once a planet is under your control how do yuo protect them from invasion? By putting space ships and buildings in it or will it never be invated? That would mean once I take over a planet it will be mine for ever without having to worry.

When you capture a planet you have to think of a few things:

* Build space station asap! lvl 2-3 is enough for the oponent to not trying to recapture it for a while atleast (but still have your fleet there until the station is complete)

* Build a barack and a vehicle Factory (they produce their own units in ground battles)

* Build hypervelocity gun/Ion cannon if you think you can afford it (these are very effective when the enemy is invading space)

* If you need to defend another planet leave a few ships behind just in case couse planets that are in the frontline always need good defense

* Build Tie maulers (if ur Emp) couse they are good if your oponent is Raiding your planet becouse they are fast and good against heroes (specially Obiwan)

* always use C-3po & R2D2 or Probe droids to scout nerby enemy planets to see if they are massing for an atack

Hope i helped allitle!

Any forces you leave on the planet will be present in ground battles, plus additional "garrison" forces produced by ground factories for free. You can tell what units a factory will produce as a garrison by hovering the mouse over the factory in galactic mode. So, for example, if you have a Rebel barracks on a planet, you'll get Rebel troopers and Plex troopers for free (for the duration of the battle) even if you have no trooper units on the planet.

It's always a good idea to build at least one or two factories on planets, because they keep cranking out ground forces even if the enemy destroys their initial garrison. As long as the factory is intact, you'll get free units to use in the ground battle. Since Rebel infantry is so effective, building a barracks can go a long way towards defending the planet.

As the Empire, I always try to leave at least one unit of TIE Maulers on each front-line planet, because no Imperial factory garrisons Maulers and the things are great for squishing infantry. I've stopped a lot of Rebel raids cold just by running the troopers down. Similarly, as the Rebellion, I try to always have either a heavy factory or a unit of MPTLs, since they are so powerful, and I always try to have a unit of snowspeeders on the ground. Speeders aren't garrisoned in any factories and they're invaluable for taking down AT-ATs, SPMA-Ts, or just harassing Imperial troops.

If you have cash to splurge on ground defenses, shield generators and turbolaser towers are great things to have around, especially if you plan to defend the planet by digging your forces in rather than sallying forth to take the reinforcement points from the invaders.

In space, Igor's basically covered things: space stations produce garrison forces just like ground factories, and bigger stations have more weapons and produce stronger garrisons, so level 3 stations are about minimum for frontline planets. (Space stations also boost your galactic unit cap!) If you're playing the Rebels, ion cannons can be built without any prerequisites on a planet, so if you find the Empire keeps coming at a particular location with fleets, build one and you should be able to swing the battle significantly in your favor. It's a bit tougher for the Empire to build hypervelocity cannons, since they require heavy factories, which require light factories. This doesn't necessarily mean that you need three build slots since you can sell off the factories once the cannon is built, but it does take time and money!

Long-range scanners are also tremendously useful since they will warn you of incoming enemy forces on the galactic map. Sometimes the warning gives you enough time to augment your defenses with forces from nearby planets, especially if you use hyperspace trade routes. At the very least, the warning from a long-range scanner lets you evacuate vulnerable forces from the world that's about to come under fire!
