Mike Windu
Sophia Coppola made a decent movie. Hooray for Lost in Translation.
TimeRace
My point is is that they're glorifying gay. I don't care if there is a gay guy in a movie but I don't want Hollywood to rub it in my face. My point is is that I don't think Brokeback Mountain would've gotten the attention it did if it were a love story between a man and woman instead of 2 gay cowboys. Gay people are out there. I know they're there and everywhere. I just don't need it rubbed in my face. I don't rub my straightness in peoples face. People had different reasons for liking Brokeback. Sure there were some that probably only liked it because there was a gay couple in it but you can say that about any movie out there (and for many of those people it still had to do with liking the storyline as well). There's always going to be something specific about a movie that attracts people's attention. Sometimes it's even as easy as casting certain actors. In any case, there are tons of people that liked Brokeback for the movie itself not just the interest in watching two gay men. I don't think we can assume to guess what kind of attention it would've gotten had it been a story between a man and a woman because that would've changed the storyline making it into an entirely different movie so who knows. They're hardly glorifying gay just because there was finally a mainstream movie with two gay men that also wasn't afraid to show a sex scene and some making out which unfortunately is a big thing with the way many people still discriminate in this world. All that though isn't glorifying being gay anymore than all the movies out there that contain straight sex and men/women making out is glorifying being straight. I'd say the straight movie and television content greatly outweighs the quality content that is out there for gay people. Having one big movie between a gay couple doesn't mean it's been rubbed in your face. You can easily watch tons of different programs to get away from it if you really have a problem with it. I mean I'm not complaining when I have to watch yet another straight sex scene in all the movies or television shows that I watch so I think people can deal with there finally being some movies out there with gay themes and characters too. You may not feel you're personally rubbing your straightness in people's faces (and unless you're a part of the movie making process then why would you) but you have to admit that the vast majority of movies/tv shows have in-your-face straight interactions (romantic, sexual, etc) and because of that it's actually easier to make a case that Hollywood is rubbing straight content in our faces much more than gay content. Ray Jones
Widescreen-girls in action, yay. I don't really mind sex scenes at all, but seriously, most movies could easily live without the clear presentation of the act, gay or not, itself, that's what imagination is for. Also, I am not really sure if anybody is doing it like they show in these movies, except maybe for those horror movies, you know, those lustful, uninhibited moments just one second before the killer or the alien lifeform brings a bloody painful death XD
