Sabretooth
the "Temple of Kukulkan"....which is how it is listed in many US travel guides. I'd be thankful they don't list it as "This is where Mel Gibson filmed Apocalypto!" That'd be a really sorry sight.
Totenkopf
Totenkopf, no matter how 'realistic' they want to make them, the men still always look at the fake ones I think this is what you meant to say.... Otherwise, I can only wonder what goes on at that asylum you run. Between RJM's obsession w/spanking and now your seeming one with what, well I can only guess...... Anyway, your secret is safe as long as Jimbo ain't reading this thread. Btw, have been to three of the also rans and only one of the final seven (Rome's Collesium). Guess I better get a move on.... RC-1162
I never really cared about these 7 wonders lists, actually, because everywhere I look, I see a different list, made by some guy who edited whatever the original was because something he liked wasn't in it or something he disliked was in it. I believe the real wonders of the world are all natural. Nothing beats Mother Nature.
spinkle
I'm not too thrilled about Christ Redeemer or the Colosseum, but I like the rest of the new Wonders, especially Petra (whose recognition is long overdue imo). I'm really just glad that the Sydney Opera House and the Statue Of Liberty didn't make it. Statues are cool and all, but compared to the Great Wall Of China they're really just oversized action figures. The Colosseum I just find kind of...overplayed. Jae Onasi
Im glad you are learned enough to know that Jae. 100% of the Americans in our tour group last year were calling the pyramid the "Temple of Kukulkan"....which is how it is listed in many US travel guides. Our Mayan guide was visibly grinding his teeth mtfbwya For those of you who haven't been blessed to go to Cancun/Yucatan peninsula....Chichen Itza is the entire site, which is quite amazing, rather than just the pyramid in the picture in ChAiNz's link, which is called El Castillo. The Yucatan is so flat that if you climb up El Castillo (which is a challenge because the steps are very steep), you can see for miles around. I'll see if I can find some of our pictures--we shot a photo from the bottom of the stairs up to show a perspective of just how steep it is. The fastest way down the stairs, because they're too narrow for you to put your foot all the way on unless you go down sideways, is to sit down on your tushy and go down each stair that way. Man, just reading that almost gave me a pain in the @ss.
Jae Onasi
^^^ Think toddler-scooting-down-stairs-on-bottom and you get the idea. Except there are 91 stairs to scoot down.
Totenkopf
Yeah, it's kinda funny how quickly they can move around like that too. Also, it's funny that Wonders of the World is really Wonders of Mankind. Seems like nature has carved some pretty fantastic examples of its own. The Grand Canyon, for instance.
