Ahhh... Well I did not really find it boring, but jedi academy crashed, and so did all the files with it. I may get it after dinner though.

Just I have a qestion with it:

Why does it say in the readme 'No more Hack 'n' slash sabering', when I played it last I hacked and slashed.

Wait... I was dueling bots, no wonder. :p

Yeah the bots pretty much just swing and attackfake (powerfeint) non stop, but they will parry and attackparry (push parry) you while their doing it. Be sure you read the manual well. The thing is, if you don't read the manual and know the basics like parrying, attackparrying, what the dodge meter and mishap meter mean, attackfaking, and how the new autowin saberlocks that are caused by unparried attackfakes work (which have their own special purpose), this mod will seem random and swingspamish. Nothing could be further from the truth as our most recent release is actually TOO defense oriented if you know how to parry well. I'm personally trying to figure out ways to fix that in my own code :p.

If you guys are really use to the jump around swing and no block combat of base JKA, your not going to find too much of that here.Ours is mostly toe to toe, back and forth combat like the movies and you have to think fast. It can still be done to an extent since rollstab and yellow DFAs do double dp damage and backflips and cartwheels arent penalized that much in fp, but you'll have to combine those with comboing or youre not going to do that much damage overall.

Lastly, don't give up that easily VaderChick! :( This will probably keep you busy long after you get tired of base sabercombat like it has for me. ;)

There are really 3 factors that determine the outcome of an OJP match:

1: Lag and pings.

If either side has a ping over 100 the fight will not be as it should. Lag has ruined many-a fights for both lowpinger and highpinger.

2: Use of the mouse.

You have to use your mouse to aim your defense, which will help your parrying a lot. I personally am against this since it makes the system more complicated and is just useless. I should be dependant on my parry skills, not my mouse sensitivity.

The way it works is that you can shift your hitboxes with your mouse, id est: you look straight down and someone hits you LOW, it will sometimes count as a mid-body or even high strike. Look high up and let someone hit you on the upper body and it will sometimes count as a middle hit.

Frustrating, but I think noone wants to get rid of it :(

3: Bugs or abuse.

Juyo transitions, blue hacksawing, multistriking, yawing, slash-after-push spam.... all play a big role in a match for an experienced dueler.

I tend not to use anything that is labeled bugged or overpowered since it will give me an edge in the future when these things are removed.

Most of them can be removed by tweaking the animation.cfg so I have high hopes.

Edit: These are 'outside' influences on the saberdueling, ofcourse the player's skill and luck are involved too ;)

I have high hopes too for tweaking the animation.cfg to make things more fluid and squash the leftover bugs, but some things may just have to be dealt with in game. There are bugs in every JKA saber system and they aren't as bad here as Max makes them sound, so new guys, don't get scared off by his comments

High ping fights are doable, but the high ping person is at a bit of a disadvantage because they often have to start their parries earlier when they first see the angle of their opponents swing and where it will hit them. This is where yawing can really screw things up so dont do it!

2: Use of the mouse.

You have to use your mouse to aim your defense, which will help your parrying a lot. I personally am against this since it makes the system more complicated and is just useless. I should be dependant on my parry skills, not my mouse sensitivity.

With the pure mouse aim thing, its often much harder to do this consistantly than it is to just parry normally. But since the right parry direction is based on where the saber hits, moving your mouse to make it hit cleaner on the correct side is impossible to change because of how the parry system works. If we wanted parrying was based on direction of the swing only, we would have to do a ton of coding to change that and honestly, it would probably make parrying too easy. Razors the only one who understands that part of the sabercode well enough to change that anyways and he has better things to spend time on for whats left to fix in this mod, especially since he's borderline retired.

The Juyo transitions only suck if you know how to exploit them, but need to be fixed regardless. Blue hacksawing could use a little work but it is nearly unchangable because of the animations and it is not too hard to parry (I may just nerf the overall damage of blue in my code to see if that balances it out more and just make that a feature of the style :p). Multistriking is more just a faster combo, its hard to do, and a single parry can stop it but it can take you by surprise if your not looking for it (its usually a forward parry). Yawing is pretty lame, but theres really nothing that can be done about it in this sabersystem or anyothers; its still parry able though. Anybody who uses the slash-after-push spam is just a weenie and needs to be banned from the server their on :p

The concept was something that I considered, but I feel that I made the right decision because animation-based parry movements only works for one-on-one battles between two opponents that are facing each other directly.

I'm well in OJP I gusse I classify as a noob so I'd just like the insturctions needed to play on a OJP server if there is 1 (there should be) and how to beta test.

I've been trying to get thi info on every tread that has to do with installing game for about 4 hours and I'm starting to get mad.
