Darth_Linux
Hi all; Just to whet your appetite, our 6 level demo now has cutscenes that are rendered in the engine, meaning the characters move their mouths as they speak, and can move around. No more General Mohc talking with his lips closed . . . . we'll get some screenshots up on the site in the next couple of weeks to show you ;-)
Tinny
Nice man, was it a modeling problem that prevented him from speaking?
Darth_Linux
no, it was that we were doing the cutscenes in the ROQ format, which is basically a moving, and the environment the the movies were made in didn't allow the mouths to be moved. The game engine itself knows how to do it, and Salv has figured out how to write the scripting that tells the engine what to do, so now, it works. Frozen Death
Sounds great! Will you be making the changes to previous cutscenes? If you do make the changes, would they be included in the next demo release? Also any idea when that will be released? Can't wait

Magic_Al`s DF
Regarding the front page news that the text crawl is going to be in a ROQ -- is that really the right way to do it? The "nasty transition" was because the text crawl starfield didn't match the ROQ starfield. Seems like the way to deal with that would be to grab the frame of the ROQ right before the camera tilt begins and use that bitmap (the way it looked before video compression) as the starfield during the text crawl shader. That's the way JA and JO did it and the advantage is the text crawl renders at maximum resolution and it's easy to localize or customize the text crawl. Putting in all in the ROQ seems to be swatting a fly with a sledgehammer.
SlicerDude
Heh, didn't even notice there was news on the site until now. Sounds like it'd be fine either way to me, but then again, what do I know? On an unrelated note, is the news archive on the site broken or something?
