tk102 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Hello LF, Does anyone know first-hand of a good defragmentation utility out there as an alternative to Windows' Disk Defragmenter? I'm thinking that a good, fast defragmenter would run outside of Windows but I'm a bit nervous about using a utility like that without hearing others' experiences.
Darth333 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I used to use Perfectdisk at the office. It was good but I haven't tried the newest versions. However it isn't free. For a free defragmenter, I heard good things about this one: http://www.auslogics.com/ but I haven't tried it yet.
tk102 Posted February 22, 2007 Author Posted February 22, 2007 For a free defragmenter, I heard good things about this one: http://www.auslogics.com/ but I haven't tried it yet. Thank you. It looks quite pretty: and it gives a good report of what files it defragged, which files didn't have enough space to defrag, and which files were unmovable. Unfortunately it runs in Windows, which gives rise to that last category. Still, it seems much better than the default utility.
tk102 Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 Thanks Negative Sun. Diskkeeper will be the next one I try. Another one I tried, O&O Defrag, has a good freeware version for defragging using the SPACE method. The drawback is that it only works with single-partioned HDDs. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4545
