UDM
Another random thought which I felt was pretty cool and not that hard to implement in a community effort How about an in-game encyclopedia? You know how we're all going for that whole canon Star Wars universe thing? I thought it might be cool if we have an in-game encyclopedia that details different parts of SW. This would include information on the saber forms, on planets/locations, on characters, on weapons etc. Of course, it'd have to be self-written and not C&Ped (copied and pasted). I think this is cool, it'd expand the definition of an open source project. Anyone can be a contributor. It'd be like a wiki What do you guys think? Sazabi
i think in-game encyclopedia about mods mechanics would be more useful
DarthDie
How were you thinking of this working?Would it be done in console (Example: "/lookup Count Dooku" "Count Dooku was a sith with a crooked saber blah blah etc.) or a UI? @Sazabi: Not a bad idea I think mebbe both? UDM
I'm starting to get the hang of the UI code in JKA. I figure the easiest way is to have a side panel with a list of topics/subjects, and clicking on said topic/subject will activate the description to the right Sazabi, you're right, we can have an in-game encyclopedia about the game mechanics too One thing though, some knowledge of coding will have to be involved with setting this whole thing up. Ugh I hate C++, but I'll start learning asap. After all, I have to stop relying on jon to modify the UI code for me Darthdie: that'd be nice, and it's possible, but with my current state of knowledge of the code, I have no idea how to go about doing it. We can only hope OJP receives more love from coders
razorace
I don't think we have the manpower for this. I'm really the only one doing manual/documentation. In addition, we already have a wiki page that is basically never updated.
UDM
Beg to differ. I'm already planning on how to execute the UI script for the encyclopedia. Even though I'm no UI scripting expert, it's no problem at all. Should be much easier to do than the HUD and main menu. I can handle it on my own. You just wait for the screenies Actually I may need hockney's help too to modify the C++ code for the UI files, because I can't install tortoisesvn (I don't have WinSP2). So hocks, please please come online asap
ensiform
More like C not C++ And why can't you get SP2?

Maxstate
Pirated windows... Whoopee doo, 4 people have messaged me laughing at my pirated WinXP... *runs away and cries* =((((((( lol I don't know anyone in my entire ICT sector that has bought it, even the school itself copies it's Windowses I recommend Amit Talkin's "Windows XP pro SP3". I've been using it for a while now and I have to admit the guy did a pretty good job optimising it. It has everything you need for maintenance and performance, and almost all of the 2005/2004 hotfixes and updates including SP2 and SP1.

My brain is already melting from just trying to write up a manual in the first place.

UDM
UDM: JAMP --> solo play --> rules I know. That's why I realised this was going to be easier than I thought after reading the UI script for that particular UI With respect, I don't think we're going to be able to handle updating a primary written manual and the ingame encyclopedia. My brain is already melting from just trying to write up a manual in the first place. That's the point. I, and anyone else who is interested, will do it This is Open Jedi Project right? Anyone can contribute right? Well that's just it, we'll give people who don't have any modding experience the chance to contribute. I know there are many hardcore JKA players who can't mod, but they want to contribute in some ways to the modding community. Well this is their chance to do it Of course, this is still your project at the end of the day. If you think its ok, I will place myself fully responsible for the in-game encyclopedia, but if you still refuse to, well ok I guess we won't have it after all. You have to know, though, that you don't need to lay a finger on this

razorace
*shrug* I guess we can try it if you guys are that gun-ho about it. I just think it's going to never be updated regularly and become confusing to users. We already have plenty of writer tasks that can be done and I'm currently the only person working on them. :|
