NiKo
okay im really not a computer wiz (but im trying) and this concerns my problems with Flash5. i got the trial one a long time ago burnt on a disc from a friend, worked fine. then one day without me touching anything and the experation date hasnt expired yet, i got an error message while trying to launch Flash, and then it crashed to the desktop. later on i uninstalled flash and downloaded the trial from the website. same error message while trying to launch. today i thought this will end as i got the REAL flash (not the Trial) and installed it smoothly. then as i happily clicked the icon to launch flash, and, KABOOM, error message and with the crashing back to the desktop all over again. the message "this program has performed an ilegal operation and will be shut down" still haunts me. can anyone trie to explain this to me? no big words please, remember, im stupid [This message has been edited by NiKo (edited June 09, 2001).]
Guest grannen
Begin with a Scandisk. Click Start - Run and type SCANDSKW.EXE If you have more than one harddisk, hold down Shift and click on C: and on last drive. Select Standard and Automatic Repair That's the first check you have to do. ------------------ and Grannen

Thrik
Also, on the illegal operation dialogue there should be a small button named 'Details'. Click that then copy/paste what it says onto here.

Rufio
ive been saying that all along... niko, there might have been something messed up in the registry of your computer, thats where all the keys and suck to programs n stuff are located, now i only suggest this if u are a proficient level windows user, but i can run "regedit" from the run command in the start menu, and then look through ALL the entries to see if there are some conflicting things happening with flash. uninstalls dont always take care of the registry right, and there could be some werid demo/retail conflit. that or u dont meet the requirements for flash x? flash 5 i assume... ------------------ ME = SIG KING

Guest grannen
Hi NiKo! You can get three results from the Scandisk 1. No problems found. 2. Problems found and all repaired. 3. Problems found and file(-fragments) removed/converted. It is only in the third case you still might have a problem with the program. Only (mostly only) way to fix it is to uninstall/reload the suspected file/program. And use the uninstall option if possible. Perhaps you have to reinstall the Windows program! (But in that case, don't uninstall Windows, only reinstall it.) Now for the rest. Check if the Flash program starts in Windows Safe Mode, i.e. press F8 when you restart Windows. If it does, then click on Start - Run and type msconfig.exe (Well, do it anyway.) Mark Selective Start and Autostart and uncheck all boxes except systray.exe (if you find two of them - uncheck one) but make a note of those you uncheck. Click on Apply and OK. Restart and recheck if Flash starts. If it does, you have a conflict with a program running in the background. Now go back and run msconfig.exe again and reinsert those marks and try to find out which one caused the trouble. (But don't use the extra systray.exe, one is enough. If you have two systray.exe marked, you can sometimes get two speaker icons in the right lower corner on your screen!) ------------------ and Grannen [This message has been edited by Grannen (edited June 25, 2001).]
