Darth Vanisher
Recently I'm having some sound errors since I've installed the Star Wars: KotOR... the problem is there is no sound effects such as lightsaber swinging, blaster shots, exploding grenade, or any other weapon SFX. Weirdly, sound effects such as voices when in a dialogue or when battling are still present. The one that won't appear is only sounds that came from weapons. If needed, I also have the report here. But after playing quite long, I think it's reducing the "fun" playing the game. Is there any solution to this? Thanks for your time.
ChAiNz.2da
Do you have any mods installed? And if so, does any of them include a baseitems.2da? (or maybe even a spells.2da?) There might be a mod changing the impact sounds or item sounds of your armory. If no mods, check to see if you have the latest drivers for your sound card, and that your game sound settings (in KotOR menu settings) check to see if any of the volume slider levels have been notched down to zero by mishap/mistake. Darth Vanisher
Yes, I have mods installed. But the sound problem have occurs before I'm adding any mods. I've checked the KotOR menu settings and it seems there's no problem at all, the slider is at maximum point. For the sound card, I'm getting confused there. I'm sorry because this sounds noobish, but how to check my sound card? Is the sound card this one? Sound Card Name=USB Audio Device If yes, I do not know where to get the latest update... Can help with this? Thanks for your time...

Thanks for your time... hehe.. good question as I'm confused by the report Are you on a laptop? If so, what brand/model? I can only assume it's on-board sound (if being a laptop) so it might be good to see if the manufacturer has any updates available in it's support section Without knowing who made the card/laptop it's hard to say where to check for updates. EDIT: Also.. just for giggles, try disabling the Force Software setting. (I noticed "Force Software=1" in your report). Should be able to in the KotOR Menu. Definitely check their website to see if they even have any drivers for sound (I couldn't find any) however, posting your make and model may help to determine exactly what type of soundcard is in your laptop. I *think* it's a RealTek, but don't quote me on that

I *think* it's a RealTek, but don't quote me on that Err... I'm a bit of blind in computer hardware... Not know for sure what my sound card is. But maybe there are some clues that I can got from the stickers on the laptop... There are "Satellite", "Intel Centrino Duo", "harman/kardon", and "Satellite M100". I knew that Intel is the processor, but not sure for the rest though... By the way, thank you very much for spending your time here, ChAiNz.2da. ChAiNz.2da
What is your laptop's Family & Model number? That can give you a Google search term that would be an immense help or might just help on this site: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp By the way, thank you very much for spending your time here, ChAiNz.2da My pleasure
Darth Vanisher
Hmm... mine is Satellite M100, it seems. Have tried that site, but do not know what to download there. :| On that site I've applied filter by OS: Windows XP SP2 and by Category: Sound. After that I got 3 files. Which one should I download now? Toshiba Virtual Sound for Windows XP (v1.02.01; 01-17-2006; 2.46M) Realtek Audio Driver for Windows XP/2000 (v5.10.0.5200; 01-12-2006; 23.09M) Toshiba Speech System for Windows XP (v1.00.2511; 02-24-2005; 19.27M) I think it's the driver, but not sure. Sorry for bugging you... thanks for your time.

Sorry for bugging you... thanks for your time. Definitely the driver one Windows will let you know if it's installing an older version of driver (should you happen to already have the latest).. so it's worth a shot. Not sure what the other 2 are about, but the Virtual Sound sounds like an "enhancement" add-on. Might be worth checking out in the future for giggles, but I'd only concern yourself with the driver for now
Qui-Gon Glenn
Just a thought that may help, just in case.... I think ChAiNz' has probably got you on the right track, but he forgot to mention one other method of determination. The dreaded/dreadful Windows Device Manager... you can update any device driver through this approach. You do have to know which one you're updating, so that you can pick it out from the list, but it is broken down for you in a decently legible way. Also, check to see if you have a "Service Tag" (Dell's parlance, Toshiba's may be different) number or ID on the bottom of your laptop. It is a unique tag for your machine, and can be used (at many manufacturer's websites) to update your computer more easily - it may all be there waiting for you! Darth Vanisher
Wow, thanks for all the help. But it's still not working. The weapons sound effects are not present. I've installed the driver, and I'm also tried the Windows Device Manager. Well... the Device Manager need to locate where the update files, and unfortunately I think I have none of them (the CD, especially). I've also checked that the 2 enhancement files above seems have installed on my laptop. But it's still not working. Any suggestions? Thanks...
