speck Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I want to buy Psychonauts, but I don't know whether to get the PS2 or PC version cos I've heard good and bad about both. What do you guys think? My PC has the recommended specs. Thanks!
bonaparte Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I had no problems with the PC version. I played with a logitech rumblepad, rather than use the keyboard/mouse controls. I've read that there are problems with the controls reacting sluggishly in the PS2 port, making some sections of the game much harder than they were meant to be.

I don't know how the graphics are w/PS2, but the PC's are awesome. However, if there's any driver issue, OS issues, etc, then it might not play, bugs out, or freezes. A console version is "guaranteed" to run it. Plus, no installation involved. Um, get the PS2 version.

If you have a PC that can run Psychonauts on its maximum settings, it will look far better than the PlayStation 2 version. This is because the PlayStation 2 uses hardware roughly equivalent to a 2002 PC, thus meaning that a lot of the special effects in Psychonauts had to be removed. In addition, most of the character models and such have a slightly lesser level of detail. The only point of contention might be the controller, as many people prefer to play platform games with a game pad rather than a keyboard/mouse. While you can buy excellent PC game pads (Logitech do a great range), many people don't have them so it's extra money. If you really can't stand playing with a keyboard/mouse and don't want to buy a game pad, you might prefer the PS2 version. The PC version is the most technically superior of all the versions, by which I mean it has the best graphics. However, if your PC isn't very powerful or you don't have a game pad you might not enjoy it as much. Now you have the information, it's totally your call.
stewlil Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 My PC version gets pretty choppy sometimes, like inside Boyd's Mind and places with high activity Especially Lungfishapolis! And the Demo version off steam didnt even load the cutscenes, but thats just my comp!
