How do I lay a mine?

I'm in KOTOR 1, on taris, trying to lay a mine in my duel with Marl, but I can't. I have both plasma and frag mines, and no matter how many times I hit "7" on the keyboard, nothing happens.

 

The mines in my inventory tell me that they cannot be used or equipped.

 

What can I do to lay down a mine?

Try clicking on the last icon from left to right on inferior part of the screen. Perhaps you'll need to cycle through other stuff, but you'll eventually find the mines.

but you also need demolitons to lay a mine

Yes, you need some degree of demolition skills for mines to show up. And you need higher skills for the tougher mines. I suggest using that demolition belt for laying mines. You can:

1) swap in demolition belt

2) plant mines

3) equip normal belt again.
