I think that living in Australia is great and is a great place to grow up in... but there is only so much you can do in Australia... you get so so so bored after a while. But I've only been in Perth in Western Australia, so maybe if i lived in a more "fun" place in Oz like melbourne or sydney I might feel differently. But after coming back from Ireland and England recently, I have to say that Perth is the biggest hole.... I'm so bored living here... if you want a social life all you can do is go see movies, the only other thing you can do is go clubbing (there are some wicked clubs in perth), but you have to be 18.... can't wait til I'm 18!!!!!!!!!

NO WAY!!

Magnus, I don't wanna get all political, but believe me, I do feel sorry for the Tampa, but you have no idea, each day we get friggen boat loads of people, who come to Australia illegally I'm all for immagration and everything, but as long as it's done the right way. Some of these people, I won't say all of them coz it's not true, burn and throw away personal documents before they get to Australia, so the government and people of Australia have no idea who they are. How do we know that one of those people isn't a fruitloop terrorist or something? Call it harsh, but unless you have boat loads of illegal immagrants (and that's what they are, if they go through the proper channels then that's fine, I have no problem with immagrants coming to Australia. What I do have a problem with is people who buy their way to countries like Indonesia and then pay someone to take them to Australia. It's not fair on us. When they get here, all they can do is whinge and complain about the facilities and complain even further that the weather is too hot. Now I know the hostels and detention centers aren't first class, but what do they expect? 5star hotels? The weather? Suuuuuuuuuuuure some of the places might be in the outback, but surely the weather isn't that different to where they've came from.

As usual, the media only shows the negative side of the situation, you have no idea how many boat loads we've already accepted, the detention centers are over crowded, there's no more room left in these places.

In the case of the Tampa however, the Australian's told them to pick the refugees up coz their boat was sinking, if they weren't gonna let the people onto Australian land then why bother telling the Tampa to pick them up? Doesn't make sense, and we're wasting valuble TV time. Do you know why the Tampa can't dock at Christmas Island though? I suppose the media has conveniently forgotten to point out that Christmas Island has no appropriate docking facilities to cater for those type of ships. If the Tampa did try to dock there, then there would be more danger to them, then what there already is, which is why the government wants the boat to go back to Indonesia, where these people came from in the first place (I mean apart from where they fled from)

I do feel sorry for them I really do, but you have no idea what it's like and no one ever will until you have to experience it. So until anyone experiences it, they're all full of shyte who have no farking idea what it's like. Afterall, we have the second highest rate of immigration other than Canada, where's the rest of the world?

I wasn't really referring to that incident, but now that you bring it up.....I agree with you, definitely.

Now, the other thing, we're a 4,5 mill, country, and yet, we take in very many immigrants.

Some places, there seems to be as many immigrants, as norwegians!

Yet, politicians say we take the in the immigrants because we need workers, maybe, but some people (FRP! Only norwegians will understand) are b|tching about that we take in too many, and want to send then out again.

Now, tell me, is that statistic quantity-based, or population-relative?

Australia has roughly 20million people, that was based on a report earlier this year (I'll just say 20million coz it's a nice round even number) sure it might not seem like a lot, especially since some cities alone have 20million people or that close to it, but what people forget it Australia is pretty much desert, only around the coast really and some inland spots is where the people live. Our water supplys in our dams are less than half full, we've been in drought for like 2years, this year was a very dry winter, we only had like 2weeks of rain (that's in Melbourne alone, other cities have been similar) and usually it rains pretty much all winter.

If I actually knew how many immagrants we took in each year, I'd be able to give a better answer, it's probably on one of our newspaper websites somewhere though.

The reason why Australia gets pretty shytty over the whole immagrant thing is all their taxpayer money has to go on finding out who these people really are. All they do is whinge and complain about our facilities and cause riots. Now if these people were geniune refugees, wouldn't they just be happy to have left the war-torn country they came from? At least Australia is safe, but if they keep acting like the spoilt brats they are, then god only knows what's gonna happen.

Once I find out how many illegal refugees we've taken in over the last year, I can compare that to how many people live in Australia.

I don't wanna sound like a cruel heartless bytch, but seriously, I don't mind the immigration as long as it's legal, that means applying for whatever it is that they need to apply for and coming in via plane, not boat, and the Australian people are sick and tired of being seen as, I can't remember the word, I'll think of it later

In the 10 years to 1999, Australia accepted 101,380 offshore refugees, compared with Norway's 15,090.

Only Canada beats Australia on a proportional basis, taking 45 refugees for every 100,000 of its population, compared with our country's 41.

Norway ranks third on this basis, accepting 33 refugees for every 100,000 Norwegians.

The United States took 1,006,100 refugees in 1990-99, the equivalent of just 29 refugees per 100,000 US residents.

That was a quote from one of our newspapers, I copied down all the figures on a piece of paper while I was at a relatives house, but I probably left it there coz I fell asleep on the lounge floor, but anyway, you get the idea
