HisImperialLord
Hello, I am new to Galaxies and my friends and I were wondering if the game mechanics allow player to create their own bases in the middle of no where. Also, does the Trader profession allow for the creation of static defenses such as turrets? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Rogue15
You purchase bases with GCW rank, you can place them at any place that you can place a regular structure on, but there is a planetary cap for bases, so you may need to clear a few of the enemy's bases out before you can place your own. traders aren't involved, turrets are purchased from recruiters if you are high enough of gcw rank to buy them. and they're not cheap. you can also buy minefields. both are kinda worthless though, unless you feel like setting down a base that the enemy can just get free gcw off. -_- the only ones that you can place turrets on are the PVE bases.....very lame, because the turrets aren't that great, and even if you go special forces, the other side will just stay combatant until they kill off the turrets... one of the reasons i quit swg was because there were some good ideas for player bases, and the devs just ignored them, and all people gotta do for GCW points is just sit next to a enemy hq (that someone on the other side places) and just like 30-70 people at once just sit there and collect without even doing anything. it's freaking ridiculous that they don't have to be SF in order to get them. i don't care what the PVE carebears say about that, but 30 people attacking 1 base is just overkill, all you need is bounty hunter, smuggler, medic, commando, and officer to take out 1 base, no matter the size, for PVE bases anyway. for PVP bases, it would be understandable to bring more than 4 people to fight off any possible players inside the base. that's just one of the things that's preventing my return. Tommycat
I always felt that the worst thing about the bases, was there is no incentive to keep a base. I mean if for every base you placed you got 1000 gcw per week you kept it, then it might be worth keeping a base. PVP base 3000 per week. Give an incentive to defend a base. Or even 500 GCW per vulnerability cycle it survives.

There is no real reward for keeping a base and the fact they are so easy to get now, people will just simply throw down a new one when one is destroyed. Some of the best pvp I was involved with was during base defense or base assaults. This was pre-cu when there really wasn't that many bases around. IIRC everyone involved had to be overt to be able to destroy it. Good times.
