Natty
OK, it's 8am, I should still be in bed, but I'm getting my haircut at 9:00, so yeah... My footy club is falling apart everyone is walking out on the club, I dunno what to do, I'm depressed, people are getting swapped to other clubs, and players are walking out on us. We had a pretty crappy year, and didn't make the finals, I just don't understand what's happening and that makes me depressed OK, I fink I babbled enough, I know none of you care, but yes, I'm having a lil rant ------------------

Guest The Feral Chicken
Right, rules of soccer. Let's see... You have a rectangular pitch with a net at either end. Each of these nets is kept by two goalkeepers, one for each team. There are 11 players a side, including the goalkeeper. Let's call them Side A and Side B for exammple. If Side A kicks the ball over the line at the side of the pitch, on the long side, Side B throws the ball back into the field, and vice versa. You cannot be offisde from a throw-in. If Side A kicks the ball out at the end of Side B's net (short line), it's a goal kick to Side B, where everyone except Side B's goalkeeper clears the penalty box and the goalkeeper kicks the ball out, and vice versa. If Side B kick the ball out at Side B's end, it is a corner kick to Side A, where a Side A player kicks the ball from the corner of the pitch nearest to where the ball went out of play, and vice versa. The penalty box is 18 yards away from the net. he penalty spot is in this area, 12 yards away from the net. Fouls are awarded for: Handball Dangerous 2-Footed tackles Tackles where the defender does not make contact with the ball but does make contact with the opposing player Off-the-ball tackles Shirt Pulling Intentional obstruction of a player Being anyone except Manchester United A Free kick is awarded to the fouled team, whereby they can play any pass or shot or whatever they want, from a dead ball, with the opposition at least 10 yards away from the ball. The free kick taker may only touch the ball once before another player touches it. There are two types of free kick - inderect and direct. Inderect is where at least one player must touch the ball before a shot is taken. Direct is where the free kick taker may shoot straight from the dead ball. If a foul is committed inside the penalty box, a penalty is awarded from the penalty spot. The taker may only have one touch of the ball, and all other players, no matter what side they are on, apart from the opposing goalkeeper, must be outside the penalty box and at least 10 yards away from the ball. Yellow cards are awarded for foul play. Red cards are awarded for serious foul play or foul play after that player already has a yellow card. A red carded player must leave the pitch for the rest of the game. They are the basic rules. There are others, such as offside or the backpass, that I can't be arsed explaining. ------------------

Al-back from the BigWhoop
some stuff Feral missed: -to be goal, the ball has to pass completelly through the line, even if the goalkeeper cacthes it -When the ball in going outside, the defender CAN put himself between the ball and the forward. -if the player has a red card or 3 consecutives yellow cards, he cnat play the next game -if someone in team A pass the ball to a forward taht is in front of everyone of team B (except the goalkeeper), its offside. But if in the moment of the pass, he is behind a defender of team B, and pass him to get the ball, thats not offside: OFFSIDE: ------->B ---------->B [b. A ----------->B ------>B NOT OFFSIDE ------->B ---------->B [b. A<---------------- ----------->B ------>B im sorry, but i dont know what backpass means (dont forget, english is not my first language) hope this helps ------------------ Well, u know. the trip wasnt really like its showing, i had to make it comic... u know... no one kicked me out... well, just this guy... i mean an army of undead koalas and some evil forces from hell!!!!!!... and this mushroom... well the mushrooms were the evil forces of hell... mushroom, singular... ok forget the koalas... Al-back from the BigWhoop
now ill try to explain how you set up a soccer ranking: Taken into consideration for the ranking are all international-A match results over a time span of the last eight years: World Cup finals matches World Cup preliminary matches Continental championship final matches Continental championship preliminary matches FIFA Confederations Cup matches Friendly matches The ranking list is produced by a computer program which assigns a team points for every match, according to clearly defined criteria. The factors taken into consideration are: Winning, drawing and losing Number of goals Home or away match Importance of the match (multiplication factor) Strenght of the opponent Regional strength (multiplication factor) WINNING, DRAWING OR LOSING Naturally a win will bring more points than a defeat in any system, but simply giving two or three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat, would not fully meet all the requirements for a reliable world-wide ranking system. Therefore the distribution of points also takes into consideration the relative strengths of the two teams. In practice this means that a win over a weaker opponent will earn fewer points than victory over an equally rated or stronger one. It is also possible for a weak team that puts up a good show against a stronger one to earn points in defeat - though as a general rule not as many as the stronger team that beat them. (see example in Section 4). A special exception is made for matches that are decided on penalties; the winning team earns the full number of points for a win, while the losing team gets the number of points that would have been awarded for a draw. NUMBER OF GOALS A further factor taken into consideration is the number of goals scored and conceded in a match. Here too the distribution of these points depends on the relative strengths of the two teams. In other words, a goal scored by the lower-rated team will be weighted more than one scored by the higher-rated side. On the other side of the balance sheet, points are deducted for goals conceded. To encourage attacking football with more goals, goals conceded are weighted less than goals scored. In matches decided on penalties, only goals scored during regular playing time or extra time are considered in the calculation. A possible "overweighting" of goals is avoided by attaching more importance to the first goal that a team scores than to any subsequent ones. On the whole, the number of goals scored can never earn as many points as would be awarded for a win. This is in accordance with the general principle that while more goals may make the result look more impressive, in the final reckoning - as in normal league championships - it is winning or losing that is decisive. HOME AND AWAY GAMES To make an allowance for the extra handicap of playing away from home, the away-team is awarded a small bonus of 3 points. For games played on neutral territory or during World Cup final rounds there are no such bonus points. STATUS OF A MATCH The importance of a game is also considered - a World Cup encounter is weighted more heavily than a friendly match. The method applied here is to use a pre-calculated factor by which the points totals of a given match are multiplied. The factors used are: Friendly match x 1.00 Continental championship preliminary x 1.50 FIFA/Confederations' Cup match x 1.50 World Cup preliminary match x 1.50 Continental championship finals match x 1.75 World Cup finals match x 2.00 also: -you never LOSE points -the most points you have, the less you get per game THATS PRETTY MUCH ALL I KNOW. HOPE IT WASNT TOO CONFUSING and here's the worlds 10 best soccer teams 1 France 810 -->lucky 2 Brazil 800 3 Argentina 794 4 Italy 737 5 Portugal 732 6 Spain 730 7 Colombia 719 8 Netherlands 717 9 England 712 10 Mexico 711 ------------------ Well, u know. the trip wasnt really like its showing, i had to make it comic... u know... no one kicked me out... well, just this guy... i mean an army of undead koalas and some evil forces from hell!!!!!!... and this mushroom... well the mushrooms were the evil forces of hell... mushroom, singular... ok forget the koalas...
