Marius Fett
Since the tut turned out to be all wrong i'm taking this tut down.
Inyri
What did you do! Your UVW Map was totally fine after you did the cylindrical mapping and now you've gone and killed it. FYI, cylindrical map your hilt first, then any stretched areas (which will mainly be the faces perpendicular to the axis of your hilt) will need to be mapped manually (your planar mapping technique will work fine then). Judging from the final image of your map in the tutorial, though, you've got various overlapping faces which will only make texturing the hilt a real pain in the rear. You may want to clean that up before you finish the hilt.
Quanon
^ Have to agree with Enyri here, that last screenshot the UVW-Map looked weird. Its like still 3D You don't need to correct every face/poly. The cylindrical shapes shouldn't be "flatten mapped". Mainly those dianogale ( 30°, 40° faces you get from bevelling and chamfering ). And I think you get this weird effect by using avereged normals all the time. It doesn't hurt to use the X, Y, Z options aswell P.S : Not to bash you to death DDD, UVW-mapping is weird in the beginning, I had to fight with aswell. Though your modelling a hilt is a good tutorial

I think you just went a bit to wild on the planar mapping Though it might be best to just correct the last part about uvw-unwrapping. There's no shame in mistakes DDD. really You're close, but just a bit off ....
Marius Fett
I suppose a but out is better than a mile out... I'll practce before doing a new tut though.
