Crashing after 5-10 min (if recently rebooted) or not working at all.

The problem is with my video card. It is fully up to date and has the proper drivers. But here's what happens:

I boot up the game, it allows me to open one of my saves. I can tell if it will do this on the main menu because if I can, the animation will be working properly. If it is jerky and sped up, I know the game won't work.

 

In game the symptoms are: after about 5 minutes of gameplay (if I'm lucky) the highlights go black. then my character is frozen place, perhaps allowed some jerky movement before I have to force close the program.

 

If the main menu is jerky (as I mentioned above) I can load the save, but am given a black screen and am have to use Force close.

 

The scan hardware feature says my video specs do not meet recommended marks. Not bloody likely. Any ideas, anyone?

Its a curious one, have you tryed the tips Jae listed in the other thread? I would suspect it most be a software issue if it happening on two computers. Have you tryed updating your version of Direct X? (Not that I've ever had any problems with your version on mine).

 

The game doesn't recognize my graphics card either, tho I have had no problems (with every setting maxed). Laptop or PC?

9.0c is the newest out, right? I also added updated component this afternoon that didn't work when I tried the game again, but I didn't reboot.

 

I also did all that stuff. (resolution, shadows, grass) I'll try it again from step one. Maybe it will work.

I would reboot for sure--the new settings on your directX may not kick in til you do.

Turn every graphics setting to its lowest point and then add them back in one by one. If you're overclocking you might need to dial back to normal settings.

K. Did what you said. Only thing I left on was 2 AA (anti-aliasing).

 

12:18 AM - Started Game, everything appears normal.

 

12:21 AM - after having conducted several brief "computer adjustments" on droids, one of the menus for conducting such is glitchy and hesitates before allowing me to return to gameplay.

 

12:23 AM - Black highlights in cutscene with kreia, which is also a bit glitchy.

I used the mouse to conduct a quick scan of the room. When I was in position facing the door to Atton's holding cell, the back of my PC was now black.

 

12:24 AM - Attempted to open said holding cell door, and in process of the animation my character and the game froze. I had to use force close.

Many thanks to all for their suggestions and assistance.

 

I FINALLY got somewhere. both my KOTOR and KOTOR 2 TSL games are now working. Video wise anyhow. I found the answer on Lucasarts tech support forum. A user named Emkay1001 suggested to someone else with the same problem that they upgrade their processor drivers. He provided links (see below) and now the video on my game is working properly. Now if I could just learn how to be more evil some way, My dark side characters always suck!
