Guest grannen
There are some general ways to check the PC. In your case I suggest to start with a reinstall of DirectX 8.0. It sounds silly but it really can improve the speed if it isn’t working properly! Then there are lots of things to do but first try with DirectX. You can find it at www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ ------------------ and Grannen

brief
I think Granne is just slightly confused regarding what Brighty was talking about. Brighty was saying that this forum takes a long time to load, and it seems Grannen thought he was talking about the game. It does seem to me that The Harbor takes a lot longer to load than the other forums, and my guess is the same as Griswold's--that it takes longer to load because there are a lot more posts in this forum. It does make sense from a programming point of view. ------------------ "He's looking at me like I'm a chicken! I'm not a chicken! brief
Oops. Open mouth. Insert foot. It seems Grannen wasn't confused. I fail to see how DirectX would help, considering that browsers don't make use of it, but heck, it can't hurt to try. Originally posted by Grannen If it worked for me, why not for you? Natty
It's kinda slow for me sometimes, but I don't notice it that much coz of the cable modem, but there's been a few technical probs lately with the Optus server- so I'm just assuming it's that. Though, sometimes when I've clicked on the reply and the message sends, it takes me back to www.escapemi.com rather than the harbor or general discussion or whichever forum I'm in. Does anyone else have that problem? It doesn't happen all the time, just every now and again ------------------ Natty Is Feeling Very At This Present Time (Note Subject To Change Without Warning!) Guest grannen
Brief! My answer is not a general solution to download problems and don't start some maniac downloading and hope that this is the universal help! I only found that it helped twice but it is of course not something you should download everytime it takes ages to get a new page! I only found that in this specific case with the escapemi Forums it helped (but sorry to say, never always]. But the download time varies of our forums, depending of the time of the day and how many people are using the web site. Don't take my answer as a general solution, It's only something that twice has helped me from nervous breakdowns! PS. Brief! When i wrote "you" in my answer I didn't mean "you-Brief"! It is a general "you". ------------------ and Grannen [This message has been edited by Grannen (edited October 30, 2001).]

Natty
I don't know what you could call the 2nd harbor or what you would post there, the thing is you don't wanna have too many forums, besides, the Harbor is just for general everyday stuff like our lives, if you start dividing it up, so that one harbor forum is on our fave TV shows, colours, food and stuff, while the other harbor forum is on our fave music, animals and other stuff (just using those as an example) it would get very confusing, well it would for me. The reason why the harbor is so busy is that basically we've all played EMI now, so there's nothing to talk about game-wise, so we're basically left talking about everyday things ------------------ Natty Is Feeling Very At This Present Time (Note Subject To Change Without Warning!) Metallus
Hm, maybe not a Harbor 2, but maybe subdivide the Harbor from a single forum into a category of off-topic forums, if that would help the engine build the topics faster. Just some general non-mi stuff, Movies, Music, Games, stuff like that. ------------------ <IMG SRC="http://members.hostedscripts.com/randomimage.cgi?user=Metallus"" border=0> Metallus is feeling

The slowness seems to be a server problem, not a client problem (I've got cable access too, Natty), at least to the best of my observations. ------------------ "He's looking at me like I'm a chicken! Natty
I was thinking, Murta said it could have something to do with the new mods for some reason. If that's the case would the forums be better if 2mods were assigned to each forum? I don't know it's just an idea, I don't think 4mods are necesarry for each forum that's all, surely 2mods per forum would be better off? It's just an idea though ------------------ Natty Is Feeling Very At This Present Time (Note Subject To Change Without Warning!)
