Identity-Theft Concern...

I just came back from being gone since last Saturday, June 7th. However, it seems someone has hacked into my LF account.   I ask you this, my good moderators: Is there a way to ensure this will not occur in the future?? I would appreciate any responses a.s.a.p. (In case someone hacks my account again.)

Side Note: Forgive me if someone corrupted my name while I was out.

A stronger pass word would be the first way to stop it ;)

The moderators might be able to do an IP address comparison with whoever logged in as you and current members to see if anyone has a same IP; I'm pretty sure hacking someone elses account is a perm-ban, if you have any suspects I would suggest PM the mods, and they could check IP's...

The only thing you can do to keep your account safe is to pick a good password. Never use the same password in more than one place, don't pick one that is easily guessed by anyone who knows anything about you, don't use words that can be found in a dictionary as password. And, of course, don't tell anyone else your password, or write it down some place where someone can see it. :)

As for tracking, the forum only logs the IP address for posts and such activities, not for logins. There is another member who has also been posting with the same IP address as you, though that doesn't necessarily mean more than that you are using the same ISP to connect to the Internet.

Are any of these posts by you not actually by you? :)

How did you notice that your account had been used by someone else, by the way?

No; None of the posts were by me. In fact, my last official post (besides this thread) was in the Photo Album.

I noticed my account was hacked by looking at some PMs in my Inbox & Outbox, btw.

Looks like we've found our culprit then, since those posts were all made from a different ISP than what you usually use (in another country even), and we only have one other member who has been posting from that IP address before. I've sent a PM with the details.

(For other staff: See this thread)
