Captain Blizzard
Hi, I'm playing Escape from Monkey Island on PC and something funny has begun to happen to it on my laptop - which I've played the game on previously with no problems. I can install the game all right. But after that, the 'Start Game' window just never appears. The hour glass is at work but the window never comes up. The only way out is to restart the computer. Then when I try to start the game manually, same result. Does anyone know why this is? I'm already trying to run the game via Compatiblity mode. Every time I insert the disc, the hour glass is working, but no window is pops up. Any help would me much appreciated.
s-island
So it's the launcher that's buggy? http://quick.mixnmojo.com/software - bgbennyboy created a new installation program and launcher that should work better on newer computers. You could try and see if they work for you.
Captain Blizzard
Thanks but it doesn't seem to be working. Every time I insert the disc, autorun takes over and tries to load the start game window, which never comes. I think it slows everything down - I try to start the new launcher program but the disc can't seem to make a connection with the computer.
s-island
Weird. Did you try re-installing the game using his installation program? It includes the launcher as well.
Captain Blizzard
I'm trying at the moment; the disc is in an exterior DVD drive (as the interior one can't seem to accept the disc still), and the setup keeps telling me that it encounters a data error while trying to copy certain files, all with the extension .m4b, both art and sfx. Is this normal?
Thrik
Is it a CRC (cyclic redundancy check) error?
Ray Jones
Maybe your disc is screwed.
