Broreale
I'm using the "Best Of" version of KOTOR 1 on Windows 7, and I can't set the affinity for the .exe, either through the Task Manager or through the "start" box in properties (I couldn't find one). I've applied all the other necessary changes, like running in compatibility mode as administrator. Any ideas on how to help?
Q
^Is the "Show processes for all users" box checked in the task manager? Which file would it be? Cause I don't see a file with a .ini extention Apparently Windows is showing some file extensions but not all. It's the "swkotor" file with the little gear over the notepad icon, right under the swkotor file with the "Malak's" head icon (swkotor.exe). Broreale
Aha, now I've found it. I'm still getting random crashes, though. They're manageable, but they happen fairly often. Is there any fix that... well, fixes that?
Q
Did you follow all of the instructions in the second post, including the Dantooine lag fix, when you installed the game?
Broreale
Yeah, I double-checked and the Dantooine fix was done according to the instructions. As for the install, I constantly rechecked the OP before doing anything else.
Q
Try using the game's configuration utility to post your system specs: Post your system specs Sometimes we're just not going to be able to help you if we don't know what kind of hardware you have on your machine. If you don't know what you have on your machine, then follow these steps below: If you're using Vista or Windows 7, go into your game folder, find "launcher.exe" and right-click on it. Select "properties", then "compatibility" and check the box beside "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Then check the box next to "Run this program administrator" and hit "OK". (EDIT by Q) Bring up the launcher menu for Kotor 1 or 2 (by running "launcher.exe"). Click on "Configure". Click the "Scan Hardware" button on the lower center of the window. Click "Yes" to continue. Click "Details" to view your system specs. Click "Save Report" and save the file to your desktop. Whenever you post your problem, open the file you just saved and copy and paste the contents to your post. You can leave out the keymapping and everything after that. Q
Not what I asked for. The game's config utility doesn't just list your hardware; it can show how the game is interacting with it.
Broreale
Aha, here we go. I was confused because the Best Of versino has its own separate launcher. Slvr
I have not. U mean by eye candy all the shadow and partical effects right?
Q
Yup. And antialiasing, anisotropy, frame buffer effects, texture quality, etc. You probably won't have to turn all of that stuff off; just enough to get the game to run smoothly.
Slvr
No go still crashes a lot. It used to be playable but now I am fighting Calo Nord for the second time and it always freezes up and crashes halfway through the fight. Do you think if I made a Virtual machine of Windows Xp it would help at all?
Q
No. AFAIK, you can't run 3D games on a VM. I'm not sure what's wrong. If you did everything according to the steps in post 2, it should run fine.
Slvr
I dunno, I did follow all the instructions..... O well maybe it isn't meant to be. If I got KOTOR off the steam marketplace would that one be compatible on Win7?
Q
No, it will be very much the same, only it will come with some of the fixes already listed here.
Anny78
Hey guys!
