Ah, crap. :(

Let me install the game again and I'll get back to you.

Thank you! :hugs:

Edit1: going to uninstall the game and start anew...

Edit2: uninstalled

installed the DirectX redist. 2010 (couldn't find a 2011 version... but I'm just a noob :D)

installed game

manually patched to v. 1.03 (win xp (sp2) compat. as admin.)

Edit3: aplied steps 8, 10 and 12, reinstalled nvidia drivers (v. 286.52) and PhysX (v. 9.11.1107); the game scan still tells me my drivers are out of date

Edit4: made changes in Graphic Options and Nvidia Control Panel as in post 31

downloaded securom's exe file and it appears to be not only US but English-international, just as the patch 1.03 - 'cause it really helped and the GAME IS RUNNING NOW!!! *squeeeee*

(I don't need a desktop icon/shortcut, I'm using the Start menu :-))

THANK YOU Q AND THANK YOU ALL!!!

It's possible to alter your shortcut to automatically launch an application with the affinity you want.

The command I have in my target box of the shortcut is:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "SWKOTOR" /D "C:\Users\Public\Games\SWKotoR" /high /affinity 1 "C:\Users\Public\Games\SWKotoR\swkotor.exe"

Obviously you'd replace the directory I have my swkotor.exe file in with the one yours is in in both places in the above line.

So it's a shortcut to the cmd.exe that launches what follows as a command. The command actually being executed is the start command, and the start command is what allows you to pick what CPU(s) to use for executing the game. The affinity integer is a bit flag, with the least significant bit representing the first CPU and going up from there.

You need to run this shortcut as administrator as well.

The actual game executables will run in compatability mode/as administrator since you should have set those properties already if you followed the steps outlined in the second post.

Since it's a shortcut to the cmd.exe, the icon will be for cmd.exe. To change it to the swkotor icon you just open the properties for the shortcut, click on the change icon button, and browse to your swkotor.exe and select the icon to change it.

Obviously this will work for any old game that doesn't work well on multiple cores.

Edit: Forgot to mention, this is for Vista. I'm not sure if anything has changed with the start command on windows 7.

I am stuck in the middle of steps five and six.

"5. Run setup.exe. Select continue, and install as you normally would.

6. Once it is installed, you'll need to fix the mss32.dll file > this is done by simply replacing it with the fixed one from the above link:

When disk one has finished installing I put in disk two and then the computer seems to get confused. I've tried a couple times - sometimes it just asks me to put the first "play disk" back in, other times it tells me that some of the files don't match the .cab format (or something like that)

Is my problem the same as the windows 7 issues mentioned above or is my problem something unrelated?

What information can I give you to help me sort this out?

This same disk worked fine installing the game on my older desktop... so I don't think that it is a problem with the disk...

Thanks,

Wilson

First I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this :3 and that this is still an Active Thread, most that I have found died years ago :(.

My friend just bought me KotOR & KotORII for the PC (super gift xD).

Which was awesome, I loved playing KotOR on the XBox :)

Anyway, My laptops' OS is Win. 7, so obviously some issues via compatibility. I'll Try the fixes that are here in the thread, & I'm hoping something works xD.

Are there any that are known to work for sure with Win. 7 ?

Right now after patching KotOR when I launch the game it goes through the Lucas arts & Bioware logos then crashes.

(havent had a chance to read through the entire thread yet xD)

Also is it normal for KotORII to install as Version 2.0?

with it being that way I can't use any of the updates or patches and I did know if it was normal.

I'm also assuming that They are just the original releases of the game, since the cases don't have anything stating otherwise:

When you install the games, just follow the directions in post #2. If you have any problems after that, just post them.

Yes, TSL's unpatched version is 2.0-something. Patched, it's 2.1-something.

ok.

as far as TSL's it gives me an error when I tried patching it, and I went to do the manual patch and it gives one there too, stating something about a missing patch file. But I'll see if that changes upon the reinstall xD

Hi. I am having a problem with my KOTOR that I bought from Steam, Installation went fine and the game starts up alright but the character models are all completely bonkers. Arms and legs float freely, torso floats parallel to the floor, eyeballs and and head float separately and so on (this also includes Malak at the start menu). I have tried the simpler solutions; running in compatibility mode, changing settings, upgrading drivers, Dvx, patches, setting display options to the same as my monitor etc. I also tried the solution below:

Well never mind, I downloaded ATI System Tools, created a game profile where I set Direct3d and OpenGL settings to Auto Balanced and it worked like a charm!

But to no avail. Or specificity, computer illiterate as I am I couldn't get it to work as the I couldn't find the above mentioned options anywhere in the ATI Tray Tools, at least not while creating game profiles. I'm running Vista home basic service pack 2 on a rather weak laptop (but still, we're talking about a, what, 7 year old game here). Specs below. Anyone know a possible solution for this?

Yes, there is. You're going to have to roll back your video drivers to an older version. This is the oldest version I could find for 32-bit Vista.

Replacing your drivers with an older version is a complicated process because the newer drivers will always leave junk files behind. These have to be eliminated or they will mess up the installation of the older ones.

1) Download and install Driver Sweeper and CCleaner. If the installation packages contain adware, be careful not to install it as well.

2) Go to Start>Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall a program and uninstall the AMD/ATI drivers, Catalyst Control Center and anything else that has anything to do with them, then reboot.

3) Boot into Safe Mode (tap F8 at POST screen when the computer first powers up), login to the administrator account and run Driver Sweeper. When it's done it will prompt you to reboot, so do so, but into Normal Mode this time.

4) Run CCleaner's registry cleaner. It will prompt you to back up your registry first, and I would do so, then fix any issues and reboot into Normal Mode again.

5) Now you can install the new (old) drivers.

Since you have the Steam version, you didn't try to patch the game or replace the .exe, did you?

The Steam version is supposed to compatible with Vista/7 without any fixes.

Well it most certainly does not. I start it up and immediately says " KOTOR has stopped working" and then closes. When I use the launcher I get that menu, Press game then same thing and it brings me to the configure tool and does the scan that says I don't pass the Open GL thing. Thats when I use the run in XPSP2 otherwise I fail the OS test as well.

I'd try reinstalling it from scratch, but not doing any of the fixes. If it still won't work, you'll need to contact Steam. I have no idea how to get their version working.

No its says it supports Windows Xp and Vista, not Win7...so shouldn't these fixes work?

I looked on their site and it says if the problem is not in a Steam dialogue box then to take it up with the game publisher, i.e. lucas arts. I looked there and it asked what OS I have and Win 7 wasnt one of the, should I say windows vista anyway?
