Q
^See below. Alright, I'm new here and I just got the game. I followed your directions as best I could, but it would not let me update. It gives the message: "old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found.no update done since file contents do not match." I just bought the game within the US so I assume it is the US version. No matter what tips I follow from the forums my game still crashes right after the character creation and scrolling intro. I'm sorry, you've probably solved this problem a million times by now on the forums, but I can't seem to get it. Any help would be appreciated. Actually, you could have the UK version of the game. Try applying the UK versions of the international patches. There are two, and you'll need both of them. Link's in the second post.
ilioo90
Actually, you could have the UK version of the game. Try applying the UK versions of the international patches. There are two, and you'll need both of them. Link's in the second post. Are you absolutely sure it would work? I really dont want to totally screw up my game... Well, not that it isnt all ready, but if it messes up, and I uninstall it, will the patch still be there if I reinstall? and 1 other thing, how much different is the UK version from the US?
Q
Still be there? No. If it was applied, it should be uninstalled with the rest of the game. That having been said, it's a good idea to run the patch files from a different folder (not the game's folder). I don't know how different the UK version is from the US one; I just know that it requires different patches.
Scorch326
after I restored the msl file, the ini, and the old exe (glad I backed those up now!) the patches went through. Thank you so much, I never would've thought of that considering I bought this in Kentucky. Has anyone posted a link to the UK .exe or is it on his website? Wait, ran it with just the patch (none of the files I downloaded) and it runs great now! Thank you so much!!

I definitely have have the US version of the game, (It works now with the US patch) and I received the same "Old file not found" error message. This message occurs when you attempt to run the patch with the SecuROM kotor2.exe file in place. Also, if you run the system scan with the SecuROM file, it will say the game isn't patched, whether you've patched it or not. I've tested this several times with a successfully patched game. ilioo90
Thank you so much! Worked like a charm, and to the post above, I know I didnt have the secuROM exe installed, that was my problem. I searched around my game discs a bit and found that a few of the zip files on there were corrupt and wouldnt extract correctly. I used the UK patches, and the game seems exactly as it would with the US version (that I imagine at least). Thank you again Q. Youre one mad genius lol. rubnvdub
I have followed the directions on page 1 to the last punctuation mark. lol However i am not able to update this game at all.. Ive tried the UK international update A. and it says right off the bat that one of the files is not the same as it should and cancels the update... reinstalled the game tried using UK update B. gets to launcher.exe (put the background.wav file in from KOTOR1 in a folder called launcher) it was aborting there because i dont have a launcher folder or exe file. so its not recognizing that either as a potential update. Then reinstalled AGAIN and tried the US B. update... gets to the Manual.pdf file an claims its not the same.... update aborts. So NONE of the updates are working for me... I just recently purchased the Collection set off amazon. It comes with both games in a single box, each game is on 1 DVD. im on an ASUS G73 notebook ATI card HD5870, Win 7 64bit, i7 cpu. The game will not start up at all... loads the exe (shows it in the task manager) but after the CD/DVD icon comes up showing that the disc is being verified it just doesnt do anything... the exe in taskmanager closes out on its own. ive tried swapping out that dll file as well, nothing seems to be working for me. I tried using the securom exe files, when i put those in the directory game prompts me for the CD/DVD... Yes i am installing the game with comp. @ xp sp2 ive even tried sp3... yes im running as admin... i honestly think they redid this game and the file system is not exactly the same therefore the updates are not working... I could be wrong but if someone can shed some light or give me a suggestion or two i would highly appreciate it. im at a loss right now. neither KOTOR game will launch what so ever Kotor1 however did update but failure to launch... no errors or anything just doesnt launch. Was really looking forward to playing this game overseas here during my down time in Afghanistan and now i just have a giant headache and super disappointed... With all this being said also i have no way to pull up config / log to post here for anyone to read ...unless theres a way im not familiar with Thanks for the time on reading this rant and looking forward to hearing a solution. wvsnl
Hey first of all great guide thanks for all the info. My game plays correctly and no major issues what so ever. Only thing that is bothering me is that when the game is transitioning between a movie or normal game scene, that the screen is blacked out for 5 seconds. So I miss the first few seconds of almost every movie, now this is nothing major but I was still wondering if maybe somebody knew the cause of this. I play on windows 7 and followed all your instructions in the guide, except the securom exe's because that is only required for vista I believe, and I doubt that something like that could be the case. Also my game used to start in windowed screen even though I never set those options for it, and then there is no 5 seconds blackout during the beginning of movies. However my windowed screen was small and I cannot get used to playing without full screen. This problem is btw present in both games. And I have the Uk version of both games. Also my drivers are of the most current version. Thanks in advance Here are the game specs I use for Kotor II: (Also both patches (UK) are installed and so are the high quality media patches. I left the keymapping out because if I remember right you dont need that info correct? Q
Since Fullscreen=1 in both places like it's supposed to be, I'm not sure why this is happening. Try setting the game to run at a higher resolution. Also, make sure that 640x480 is included in the list of supported resolutions in your Nvidia control panel.
wvsnl
Higher Resolution doesn't help I just tested it, where can I find that list in the control panel, is it under the monitor tab? And then change resolution? (Roughly translated from dutch seeing as I have a Dutch pc and everything is installed in Dutch) I added the 640x480 resolution there. But like I said the strange thing is everything plays correctly when the game is windowed, however I cannot change the size of the window so I am stuck in playing in a relatively small window. I never had this issue with my old xp pc, the black screen for a few moments i mean ( the PC which is now in the grave so to speak).
Q
The Nvidia control panel should have its own entry under Hardware and Sound in Windows' Control Panel. You may need to update your drivers, which can be found at Nvidia.com. Make sure to completely uninstall the old drivers first, then choose custom installation and uncheck everything but the driver itself and Phys-X when installing the new drivers. wvsnl
I did as you instructed and still no luck, well guess I have to live with it then. Dont know if you can think of anything else but in case you dont, then it is no biggie I can still watch the cutscenes I only miss like the first 5 seconds of the movies. Thanks anyway for trying to help me Edit: I have found a work around solution I let the game played windowed and the movies always play nice in it, however my main concern was that the window was to small. However my resolution of my desktop is 1280x 1024, that same resolution is also in Kotor II. So I used that resolution in Kotor II and now the windowed screen fills up my entire screen perfectly. I have changed my taskbar settings to hide the taskbar if I am not hovering over it, so it now feels like I am playing fullscreen, except for the blue bar on top, but well that is so insignificant that it can be ignored. So now the movies play correctly and it almost feels like I am playing fullscreen Thanks Q anyway for the suggestions, because I did reinstall my drivers correctly and some other games have increased performance, so I also got a little bonus with it
