Body parts don't match up.

Okay, I know that there is some sort of compatibility issue with ATI Radeon Xpress 200 but the thing is that both KOTOR 1 & 2 has worked perfectly on my computer before. And now, when I decide to play it again in a couple of months, I get this problem for both games:

Does anyone know what the heck is going on?

Hmmm;

Lets start with - http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=146050

As it's both games I think it safe to say its not mod;

Does anything in this thread help; http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=144109

I can't be of too much help until I know OP system etc, though at first guess if the game used to work and doesn't any more, have you tryed back dating your graphics drivers?

Yeah, I looked at both those threads as well as tried rolling back my driver. No go. Since I'm new to going on forums about these problems, I didn't what exactly you're looking for, but here's some info on my computer...

Hmmm, very strange problem, can you think of anything you have changed from when KotOR last worked? i.e. did you update to SP3? Have you tryed playing with KotOR's graphic settings?

Hmmm. I'm not sure when was the last time it worked, but now that you mention it, I think I did upgrade it to SP3. One thing for sure was that I installed the latest driver package, but when I tried rolling it back, it still had the same problem. I didn't messed with the settings, and I even uninstalled KOTOR completely and reinstalled it. I don't know if it helps, but before I played with mods...

Well, mods, I don't think are doing it as it's both games, though did you delete the directory, after un-installation to provide a totally clean re-install??

Depends how desperate you are to play KotOR, but all I can think of is downgrading to SSP2. Sorry I can't be of more help :( Some of the others may have an idea though :)

I doubt that SP3 is an issue, as I've upgraded to SP3 recently and K1/TSL both work fine. Alternate possibility if you don't want to downgrade, get a different graphics card, but that costs money so it may not be viable.

Depends on the rig ;) Different set ups can respond differently. Running out of idea's here though.

I've been having this same problem. I picked up the game for the first time a few days ago, and initially found it unplayable due to the extreme lag. The body parts rendered fine, but I was probably getting only like 1-3 fps. I've since updated to the latest ATI drivers, and the lag is mercifully gone. However, all the characters are, like above, disembodied heads with their corpses floating around them in a rather ghostly manner.

Given the choice, I of course prefer to have a playable but flawed version of the game rather than a graphically correct but unplayable version. I can always just "fill in the blanks" with my imagination (activate P-n-P gaming skills!), but I'd prefer to have an operational game WITH properly-rendered graphics.

I thought that my tale might at least shine some light on the fact that the issue probably lies somewhere with the drivers. The fact that the same game card has done both things correctly at some point should be encouraging. I'd ask the original poster if they perhaps updated their drivers since they had last played the game- perhaps installing a less up-to-date version might be the solution.

Anywho, I'll keep an eye on this and see if someone can figure something out. Otherwise, I suppose I'll just watch disembodied faces shoot blasters at each other.

Hello. How are things?

After a bit of exploration and experimentation, I have got this problem ironed out. People with an xpress 200 video card should use an ATI 8.1 Catalyst driver. Earlier ones cause lag. Later ones cause the whole wierd disembodied bodies thing. Naturally, I am quite happy that I finally got this problem squared away, and wanted to leave this bit of information here in case others like me come along later trying to figure it out.

I got the driver from here: http://www.oldapps.com/old_version_ati.php

Cheers!
