jrrtoken
Source The best news that I've heard this week; Epic Games is releasing the Unreal Development Kit... as freeware. For the ignorant masses out there, this is the official SDK that Unreal Engine 3 licensees receive. For those who say "So what?", think of the possibilities here: There is now a completely legal and officially supported access to modmaking tools, without any external publisher restrictions (Besides the non-commercial use of thereof), allowing previously unmodifiable games to loose their virginity, so to speak. I'm talking about games such as Mass Effect, BioShock, Mirror's Edge, and eventually Alpha Protocol, all being exposed to near-complete modification. Essentially, the possibilities are endless now, including a complete SS2 to BioShock gameplay overhaul, as well as other video game fantasies that remain unfulfilled... Thoughts? HdVaderII
Uses best Vader voice: "Impressive. Most impressive." Even though i'm not a large player of games on the UNREAL engine, I do think that anytime a good engine is released to the larger world, there should be rejoicing. Quanon
Making a Kotor 3 with the Unreal 3 engine Then again my puny 3D skills would need a serious education.
ForeverNight
I usually play more with the Quake Engines, but that's still awesome! I'm almost in shock, give it some time... maybe I'll finally man up and buy Bioshock...
Sabretooth
I've been a fan of the Unreal engine all the way until Epic whored out to Microsoft with their Gears of War. So this is, of course, nice news. Epic has always been very supportive of mods, especially with their Unreal series, and this move will also help the burgeoning Indie movement in gaming. All in all, this can only be good.
