Robin Hood

Recommended Posts

I actually enjoyed it. It was a nice addition to the story rather than a re-hashed version of the story that we've heard so many times. As always, the combat was top-notch and Russel Crowe was enjoyable to watch. I don't want to give away too much because I think you should see it, but I don't think the majority of the reviews don't give it enough credit. Reviewers seem to be down on the fact that this 'version' of Robin Hood is more of an action flick (like you would see in Gladiator) than an "adventure" movie. They feel that Robin Hood requires a lighter movie than it turned out. There were some slow parts in the movie that held it back from being a "great" movie (simply b/c it got pretty long), but these moments also help the movie story-wise in their own respect.

Anyway, go see it if you haven't! ;)

His accent was bizarre.

I thought the film was alright, but the script betrayed signs of being rewritten rather clumsily. Prince King John, for example, seemed to fluctuate between a sadistic machiavel and the clownish comic relief in a way that completely denied his character any sense of psychological unity.

I understand that Sir Ridley wanted to restore some of the political significance to a legend which has since been robbed of it by both Walter Scott and Disney, but it just ends up being a rather ham-fisted comment on the importance and loss of political freedom in the modern West, which follows the life of a peasant Longbowman whose status builds rather unconvincingly in scale to that of a nobleman rabble rouser. The film did introduce some interesting themes and emblems of dual and deceptive appearances but it never really progressed beyond toying with them.

Pros: Good Story

People say it should be more light, but it's the crusades, life was a bitch

Good Acting

Great Combat.

Cons: For all the older robin hood fans, minor details like him being called Robin Longstride could throw you off, and i, myself, are one of those fans, i mean..he should be called robin hood, not robin OF THE hood..

I Personally do not like russel crowe's performance of hood, but I don't like many of his movies anyway.

Not much humour at all, which I think was quite a mistake, given that most hood films we have seen were tongue in cheek.

3.5/5 3 Star Mediocre

If you really want to see it, see it. If you happen to have spare cash lying round and you like the look of it, see it! Just don't expect the robin you knew :p

Anyone between the ages of eighteen and thirty who grew up in Britain knows that Robin's a dandy who has an absurdly

. That and Marian's the real hero of the tale.
