newbiemodder
I've been working on a cutscene for tsl but have been unable to get the clairvoyance video effect to work. While looking thru the threads for solution, came upon the topic of frame buffers. Went to my options menu on startup to see if frame buffers was selected under advanced graphics but it is grayed out/unselectable. Does this mean that my chip does not support frame buffers? I also do not experience any speed blur when running under force speed, etc. Thanks.
Q
It would help if I knew what kind of hardware you've got. Here's the easiest way to tell me: Post your system specs Sometimes we're just not going to be able to help you if we don't know what kind of hardware you have on your machine. If you don't know what you have on your machine, then follow these steps below: Bring up the launcher menu for Kotor 1 or 2. Click on "Configure". Click the "Scan Hardware" button on the lower center of the window. Click "Yes" to continue. Click "Details" to view your system specs. Click "Save Report" and save the file to your desktop. Whenever you post your problem, open the file you just saved and copy and paste the contents to your post. And please specify which version of Windows you are using because the game can't ID anything newer than XP.

Q
You've got an Intel GMA 950 GPU, which lacks both hardware transform and lighting and vertex shaders, which is why the frame buffer effects option is greyed out. The GPU doesn't support it. In-game textures probably look pretty weird, too, or are simply nonexistent. However, getting a video card that can play KotOR at its highest settings would be very inexpensive nowadays.
newbiemodder
Thanks Q...what kind of card do you recommend? I never thought I had any problems with the graphics and textures, until I just increased the settings from the default on the Advanced tab of OPtions/Graphics on the setup, and wow is there a noticeable increase on detail on all the textures. Thanks for the help.
Q
If you can find one on sale, I'd recommend a GT 240, but only the version with GDDR5. It does not require external power and can be had at times for $30-35 after rebate. The only downside is the rebate part, because the initial outlay will likely be a lot higher. As far as KotOR compatibility is concerned, Nvidia is the the only way to fly. That's not fanboy opinion; it's fact. KotOR will run on any modern Nvidia card with minimal fuss, while it's become practically impossible with ATI.
