Well, althgouh topping everyones original re-action and emotion they felt ,when playing JK ,will be a dificult task, believing that JK2 will not be the better of the 2 games is a harder notion to swollow. Nearly 7 years have past since development started on JK, which is about a century in technology years. Being in the business, and knowing a little bit about the enternal make-up of Raven,( I'm in Orange County, which is farily close to Raven, as I work for a develoment company) through its years of experiance and staff off "all game" developers, not to mention their track record with game development( SOF,EF,ETC)I would bet my left arm that this game is going to set the bar a little higher, as did JK. Although the initial reaction and overwealming exitement we endured when JK was relased, due to the fact it was the first of its kind, will never be matched, I can gurantee that there are going to be aspects of the JO that will far exeed our expecations and more.....JO will be the Action game of the year for 2002......

Agreed, JK will be a tough act to follow, and if I had to speculate, I'd venture that this may be why LucasArts has taken so long in stepping up to the plate to produce the sequel.

I mean, it would be like if David Copperfield were doing magic tricks on stage, wowing the crowd, and then you were supposed to go up and do some cheesy card tricks for people right after. You'd have to have something pretty impressive to be able to follow up that act. Since LucasArts has, at long last, commited to JKII, it's apparent that they think they're finally ready to hold their own against JK's magic, if not out-dazzle it altogether. I'd suspect it's the later ;)

Hey, Vagabond! Where have you been? Welcome, anyway...

I think the only reason we are seeing JKII in development now is...

1. Because they cancelled Obi-Wan for the PC, and needed to fill that void.

2. Because of the feedback from the survey they conducted.

I'm not sure they planned on doing JKII at this time - but they're doing it, so I'm happy. My only qualms are if they've allowed enough of a budget, and enough time for the development of the game.

What I find really promising is something that was said recently - maybe in the chat log. Anyway, they haven't ruled out doing another game in the series after this one. I just hope they do a sequel to Jedi Outcast sooner than this sequel has been - say, two years after this one comes out would be okay by me.

I'm hoping they are going to really take this genre a lot more seriously in the future, and get into a regular development cycle. Star Wars is one of the best possible settings for FPS games, and they have so many opportunities to excel, with so much scope for variation to keep the genre fresh and exciting.

I have no doubts that Jedi Outcast will be a very good game. I just hope the engine they are using can deliver the same sense of scale as that used for JK.

imo i belive this game will be better then the last one just based on the successes/failures that have happened since. i think both lucasarts & raven will captalize on improvements made since (gameplay, storyline, multipayer,

graphics etc...) the last game and employ them in this one.

im sure...

Heh, thanks! :D But I am only expressing my opinion, so feel free to disagree with me at any time.

I think that's a little unfair to Lucasarts. After all, they did develop the original JK. It is unfortunate that many of those on that team left Lucasarts to do their own thing. It seems that Lucasarts decided not to replace their FPS specialists, which may or may not have been intentional. I would say it was probably not a smart move.

I do understand your concerns about Lucasarts in light of some of their games in recent years - some were certainly below par. And perhaps they have not always seemed very responsive to gamers needs. However, that has now clearly changed, and although they could quite easily have hired their own team to speciailise in the FPS genre once more, they decided instead to use a very experienced team in the form of Raven. I find that commendable. And I'd like to offer Lucasarts my thanks for really listening to the gaming community, and trying to fulfil our needs.
