A new virus has been reported in China and has been nicknamed 'Code Blue' because it bears similarities to the Code Red virus that struck thousands of computers in the last 2 months.

Code Blue attacks a different flaw in Microsoft programs and causes them to slow their functions before finally crashing the entire computer. Chinese virus experts say they are analysing the virus now.

It is not known how far the virus has spread so far.

Anyone here got it. Info from site moderaters would be cool aswell because you lot usually know more about these things.

Maybe they should give Code Green another thought.

Code Green was an idea to fight worms like Code Red. They were going to make a worm which would use the same backdoors as Code Red uses and install a patch on the computer it "infects". Of cource the virus "experts" thought it was a bad idea (probably because they wouldn't get any money from it).

Security experts examining the new Code Blue virus think that the creator might have intended for it to be a 'good' virus, a "misguided attempt to protect people against the Code Red," according to one Hong Kong expert.

"It is possible that Code Blue was created to cause chaos and to change configuration of the Internet Information Server (IIS) so that Code Red can no longer spread," Allan Dyer said. This is the second time this has been attempted.

However, experts say that even if Code Blue is supposed to be an antidote, it will fail. The Internet has become too large for such tactics to work, and "a step like that could cause more havoc than good," experts said.

Interesting :)
