Heavyarms
How come it took 20 years for Frodo to leave the Shire, when in the movie it happened in around 2 days?
Artoo
In case you didn't notice. Gandalf went a very long ways away after the party. A lot of time passed in those couple of shots of Gandalf at various places. It was a couple of years I do believe. I'm happy they didn't mention the time change cause that would only serve to confuse people more. They'd be like, "What happened! I thought this was supposed to be an adventure movie and he just waited at home for 20 years!"
Heavyarms
well, that part confused the living hell out of me. And where in the movie is there the thing with the elves in the forest right outside the Shire? (BTW, I got the big 3 book into one book thing. Is it heavy!) Boba Rhett
Elves right outside the shire? Were did you get that from?
Heavyarms
well, they find them right after meeting one of those hoodie guys.
Artoo
That's in chapter 3. There is a long song they sing. And they aren't outside of the shire yet.
Silenthunter
In fact, the second time the are being looked for by the ringwraith, he almost finds them, but the elves scare it away. They also give Frodo the the name "Elf Friend".
Guest Lord Tirion
You have to understand that movies cant depict every scene from a book. Otherwise, the movie would be 6-7 hours long. Directors only put in scenes that they deem are important to the story. Same as the reason Peter Jackson did not add in the Tom Bambadil scene. It was not needed to tell the story. Heavyarms
you need to read the book like you hadn't seen the movie? I can't connect the movie to the book, because half the scenes aren't in it!
Guest Lord Tirion
Depends how intellectual you are. Its not that hard to understand the movie from the book and vice versa.
Artoo
They also did this with Jurassic Park. The book is sort of like parts of movies 1 and 2 put together. It's a really good book, but it makes you think the movies are not as good as they were. I suggest anybody here who hasn't read it, GO READ IT! 'Tis good

Crazy_dog no.3
But it would be cool if the film was 7 hours long. I know a film that is 41 hours long.
