CaptainRAVE Posted February 4, 2002 Posted February 4, 2002 The animation studio Square USA has announced that it is shutting down, after being unable to recoup its losses from the $145 million Final Fantasy movie, which flopped at the box office. Final Fantasy is widely accepted to be the most realistic animated movie ever, and had a strong opening at the box office. It also has a good chance to be the first animated flick to win an Oscar. Nevertheless, it made only $104 million worldwide. The company still hopes for a last-minute reprieve, but after negotiations with a major movie studio failed, it is unlikely.

EvilleApplePie Posted February 4, 2002 Posted February 4, 2002 They should have tried naming it something besides Final Fantasy, because that movie was *not* final fantasy and I know several people who refused to see it because of that.
S1DC Posted February 4, 2002 Posted February 4, 2002 Well, if the Square animators are tied into Squaresoft, i'm not too worried, seeing in as how FF10 did so well. An entire brach is not going to crumble that easily.
Keiran Halcyon Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 I heard in the TV that George Lucas had catched an eye in that technology.... and after seeing Episode II's Yoda (who is VERY cool)... maybe George has done something... or is going to buy that company...
