8:02pm

Got this in an e-mail:

8:02 PM on February 20 this year will be an historic moment in time. It

will not be marked by the chiming of any clocks or the ringing of bells,

but at that precise time, on that specific date, something will

happen which has not occurred for 1,001 years and will never happen

again.

As the clock ticks over from 8:01 pm on Wednesday, February 20, time

will, for sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry 2002, 2002,

2002, or to be more precise - 20:02, 20/02, 2002.

The only other time the clock has been "palindromic" (i.e., read

backwards

it looks the same as read forwards) was at 10:01 AM on January 10, 1001,

and it will never happen again.

So, enjoy the moment!

And, as a special treat, here is my favorite "palindrome":

"A man, a plan, a canal, Panama."

The letters line up the same forwards and backwards.

Does anyone here rememeber what they were doing @ 12:34 and 56 seconds on 7-8-90? hehehe :D

Actually that email has one error, and that is that this type of palindromic date will happen one more time in human history and that is March 30, 3003.

After that date this type of date will never happen again.

I thought about that too, matt, but decided that the date system almost certainly wouldn't change in my lifetime, so I let it go :)

A palindromic date will occur again, but not with the time matching it - we don't currently have thirty hours in the day (30:03, 30/03, 3003) ...but that might change I suppose... although I doubt it will happen until we have colonised other parts of space, so in my eyes, it doesn't really count :)
