Here is some news from another post I posted earlier today..............

Wait until you see this beauty on either the XBOX or PC................. I was lucky enough to see it in motion for about 20 minutes at last year's E3................ They showed concepts of sets/environments, character creature art, weapons and force powers that are totally new to the Star wars world.

At least at that time they showed new worlds to be visited in the game that will be more like side quests, with all new creatures and area's to explore.

You will also be flying around in your own spacecraft real time throughout the game as well. There are some great new "FORCE POWERS" as well.

The animation was spot on as well with full blown Effects looking great. I thought at the time the game was ready it looked that great. But they had said wait until Fall 2002 and you will be stunned. Tons of improvement was promised. And if they do actually improve on what I already saw it will be game of all time. The engine running the game will enable the dev's to create great scripting for all the important aspects of gameplay and give the NPC's high levels of A.I.

Just wait until you see this thing in motion........whew are you in store for something great.

I'm with Rogue 15.

I wouldn't neccesarily bank on JO being more popular than KotOR. Think of how wildly succesfull the Baldur's Gate Series was, now the makers of that series (Bioware) are making KoTOR.

Sounds like a recipe for a blockbuster:D

Here are some scans that really do this gem no justice...................but at least you get some idea all be it not what the final product will deliver, I have seen this one in motion and it far out does these screens............

BioWare, makers of some of the greatest RPGs ever, is hard at work developing the upcoming XBOX/PC single-player RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. BioWare has created a brand new 3D graphics engine for the game. It will be somewhat similiar to their other RPGs, although the gameplay will be more fast-paced and action-based. You start the game off with a character you create from three different races and six classes, and along the way will add characters to your party- anything from Wookies to battle droids. KotOR will also feature mini-games to add variety to the gameplay, such as hopping into a ball turret and fending off Imperial fighters instead of just watching the action fold out in a cut-scene.

The game takes place four thousand years before the Star Wars movies, although BioWare was quick to point out that this era is still very advanced, as space travel has existed in the Star Wars universe for nearly 25,000 years. From some gaming site (unknown to me at the moment): And while most of the locales, like Tatooine, will look familiar to you, the game will be littered with subtle queues to remind you that you're really in ancient times as far as the Star Wars canon is concerned. In all, you'll visit eight worlds throughout your quests, some of which will be completely new areas. One such locale is the sprawling city of Teris, which can best be described as a decaying version of Coruscant. During this particular sequence, Imperial battle droids and what looked like stormtrooper precursors were invading the city, while a group of Jedi knights were fending them off with lightsabers. These battles were quite impressive and looked more like something out of a third-person action game than a typical BioWare RPG." As in other role-playing games, items and nonplayer characters (NPCs) will play an important role in Knights of the Old Republic--and the game has hundreds of both. The list of items includes everything from blasters to lightsabers, as well as objects and weapons that are specific to the game's time period. The game will exhibit advanced and expressive animation and facial animation.

The game is quite a way's into production as it was shown behind curtains at E3 2001, and even won a number of awards for it! Should be interesting, and I've ALWAYS wanted an epic Star Wars RPG.

There will be some real nice high rez shots up any day now along with a nice smooth as (my girlfriends backside) movie that will really show this game off the right way.

Just got word from my Brother who is in the know in the games industry that some great shots and new gameplay details will be up within a couple days..........lets hope they do show us another epic. I saw it at E3 last year and it was already quite sweet from eye candy to what they showed and talked of in the gameplay department.:):D

No one can know if either will be a success for sure or not but if you've played JK and MotS, then you know how good they were and if you've played anything with the Q3 or Q3TA engine and then if you've played anything that Raven has been involved in and then finish it off with how anal Lucasarts with the Star Wars licensing (not that it's bad) then I think JKO is definitely to be one of the best games of this year not to mention possibly The Game of the Year! :D

The only thing that I don't like about those screens is that the main dude looks like a twenty-year old Harry Potter.

This is simply not tolerable. It's worse then Jar Jar.

I want this game, though. I might, also, want it more then JI: 2.....it's close, though.

Just got some more facts on the game from a reliable source.............along with these there should be quite a bit of coverage in the next days from what I hear.

The XBOX version of KOTOR will debut first, PC gamers will have to wait. PC gamers will not see this title until late 2003, while XBOX owners will see it this XMAS. In essence, KOTR should be viewed now as a XBOX game that will be ported to the PC later.

Main reason for PC delay release is that Lucas does not want this title going up against Galaxies for Star Wars fans on the PC. Also BioWare and Lucas view this title as an aggressive move into the console market, that both will put their focus towards in the future. BioWare wishes to have 50% of their titles on consoles within the next few years. The XBOX appears to be their console of choice. BioWare will not abandon the PC market however, they view this as their roots.

The XBOX and PC versions of KOTOR will be somewhat different. They don't explain the difference, but they say there will be some to target both platforms better.

Knights of the Old Republic will use an engine called Odyssey. Supposedly it takes advantage of the the latest graphical technology in the GeForce 3. The Odyssey engine is a step above the engine used for Neverwinter.

The gameplay will be more action packed than the Baldur's Gate series. They describe it as a "rules-based real-time system, with a strong action component".

There will be "minigames" included that are like those found in the Final Fantasy series. These will be in the form of interactive cut scenes.

Three classes is all that is described here, choice of gender will be in.

The game will feature a level up system with skills you get to put points in. You can pick what skills you wish to learn.

Your actions will determine if you drift towards the dark or light side of the force.

You must play as a human, but your party can (up to 3 at a time) anything from wookies to druids.

You will visit about 8 worlds in the game, some familiar like Tatooine.Along with sides quests to starnage planets as well.

Character animations feature eyebrow movement, moving eyes, rustling hair. Animations for emotions are included as well like fear or pain. Described as some of the most life like characters seen in an RPG like this to date.

You control a starship called the Ebon Hawk, and this is how you travel in the game. Ship has the same "character and focus as the Millennium Falcon in the movies".

More to come shortly................

"We want to build a franchise and we want to work with Microsoft on exploiting a very, very cool opportunity." Simon Jeffery (President Lucas Arts)

"It's a relatively new platform, and so by taking this opportunity the pair have a chance to make an early name for themselves in the XBOX role-playing genre." Computer Games

BioWare wants the Star Wars License, and Lucas wants a franchise on a console. It is as reliable as it gets.............cool the best of two worlds.............high end PC and a XBOX with extra large HDTV option and 5.1 Dolby surround sound.;):D

I refuse to believe you. You might say I'm in denial, but do I have significant doubts. It goes against everything I know about Bioware; not about LucasArts though, they are ********. :( Can you give us anything besides a 'reliable source'?
