Rob_Roy
Ok, granted I'm biased in that I abhor "leetspeak", but what is it with the people on this forum using the word "newbie" as an insult towards other JKII players? If you're going to use this ugly bastardization of the english language the least you could do is use it properly (Use leetspeak properly, I can't belive I just said that. How far we've fallen.). The term "newbie" refers to someone who's new and usually unknowledgeable, hence NEWbie. Seeing as how the game has been out for less that a week I don't see how any of you can claim the right to call another player a "newbie". At this point there are no veterans here. Some of you out there who played the first Jedi Knight game might consider yourselves veterans, but you're really not. I've been a fan of the series since the original Dark Forces came out and I don't consider myself a vet in anyway whatsoever. And technically speaking, we're all newbies; unless that is you work for Lucasarts and have been playing the game since it's earliest betas. I doubt any of you accusing others of being "newbies" can claim that distinction. By improperly using the word "newbie", which isn't even a proper word to begin with, you're showing how unintelligent you really are. Try thinking about what it is you're saying before you post it. Hell, why not surprise your fellow posters and use the english language properly?
enDless_Deliriu
Somewhere along the line the term newbie became more than just meaning new players. There are now two types of newbie, though only one is regularly called the word there are New Players and Newbies. New players are people who are new to the game, they don't have much experience but they try, they watch and learn, and they read the manual and they are also not annoying with how they act. Newbies are SOMETIMES new players. However they act extremely annoying, they insult, they brag, etc etc. Btw, not all of us l337 sp34k3rs are newbies. Some people just find it fun to use at times (I guess in a more sarcastic way though). Anyhow, I agree, the game is new so noone should be calling people newbies. But I think they're using the term to refer to the annoying players
Spiralsoap
Rob, that statement is one I wish I could sum up into three words to say to people who use that phrase so often.. I hope everyone who plays multiplayer games reads it. Anyways the three words Ill have to continue countering that horrid insult is "shut up dummy"... Jedith
term to annoying players? i find it funny that people call others newbie like it's some sort of super put down. in my book, newbie means, a new player, fresh meat, whatever; the people that are annoying, are the ones calling people newbie themselves. SenseiFrog
Most people who call someone a newbie, has mixed up the words: Lame and Newbie. For instance: if someone joined a server and started asking: "how do i cheat", he would be catagorized as a 'lamer' or 'idiot'........ But usually he gets the well known: "****ing newbie" - line. Vagabond
Let me put it this way - whenever I find someone refer to another person as "newbie" in these forums, the offending text gets promptly removed. Whether you call someone a "newbie" or some other unsavory adjective, such behavior is not tolerated here.
JEDIcloud
the way i see it, a Newbie is someone new to something. this type of person is friendly, eager to learn, and is an overall good person. then there are n00bs. these people can be new to something or veterans, but they act in a way that is not respectful, are TKers, campers, spawn campers (or whatever thats called), and overall not good people to play with, since they spoil the fun. Moleculor
It all depends on how it's being used. If I say "I am a newbie", that means "I'm new and don't know what's going on" If I complain about the d*** newbies, that means "These CENSORED idiots who run around trying to force drain me while I'm dueling" It's all a matter of context. Learn to read context, and you might start to understand how the term is being used.
Rob_Roy
I understand how the read the context of what someone is saying. However, that isn't the point I was trying to make. But I digress, it's not my fault you people aren't familiar with proprer word usage. If you people want to run around and call people "newbie" when the game has only been out for a week then go right ahead. Don't be suprised though when I start laughing behind your back because you sound like a fool.
Fyunch Click
The problem here is the colloquial use of the word. The online definition has come to include so much more than just the original definition in many peoples eyes. I prefer to speak in proper English as well, I avoid "leetspeak" like the plague, not that I find anything abhorrent about it, it's just that I would like to be understood quickly and easily. Leetspeak, for me, gets in the way of communication. I guess I'm just too old and not "with" it anymore. Personally, I don't use the term newbie at all. I view anyone on a server as a player, good or bad. Some are annoying, some are not. If I find them to be astoundingly annoying I ask them to stop. If that fails I vote to kick. If that fails I go to another server. I've been playing online since the days of Dwango, there has always been a certain percentage of people online who, lacking a better phrase, are a$$**les. You either stop playing online or grow a thicker skin and learn to use the tools the game developers give you to control them. Just my opinion.... seanMO
and who cares even if the game had been out for a year instead of a week. people who call others newbie or noob are so lame. you were one once. and its only a game forum. nothing important. how lame do you actually have to be to think that what you say on here even matters.I think people who have high post counts are the losers. get a life. get some sunshine. dont you have anything better to do than troll the internet and post over and over. and them go and insult someone because they dont live on their computer. its so funny when people get all high and mighty because of what they do on a silly game forum. bliv
Apparently I'm a newbie since I use absorb alot because I hate getting 'drained' or 'lightninged' constantly by Dark siders. According to a few of the guys I was playing. "Only newbies use the light powers."
Divine Spirit
i, personally, do not find the term newbie offensive at all....i suppose im just used to it for being a 'new player' but i think theres obsolutely nothing wrong with being a new player as everyone was/is one at some point. what i dont like is the people who enDless_Deliriu described as newbie. their behaviour is labelld as 'newbie' because its an insult to their technique and not nesseccarily because they are a 'new player' when actually, in an ideal world, there would be a proper name for people who have played a long while, capable of being good but then sacrifice this so they can act like an immature child.....or perhaps because im a new player i dont know it yet! Cracken
In my eyes, anyone who does the jump-heavyslash-one-hit-kill-combo move in a Duel is a newbie. The damned move takes about five minutes to master, and because of the quick-turning after the move is completed, it's nearly impossible to counter. NerfYoda
In my experience "Newbies" are the folks who are new to the game, but don't want to find things out themselves. Theyre the ones who say "How do I Force pull" in a channel or forum, when its stated in the manual how to use your Force powers, or the ones who will constantly ask for help in a certain part of the SP game. Newbies graduate to bieng "New Players" by RTFM'ing & playing the game through w/ a minimal amount of assistance.
JPMaximilian
Most people who call others Newbies are trying to puff themselves up. It's a "Don't shut off my Lightsaber to make yours shine brighter deal." I don't like the term myself.
