WOW Sithlord, This is really shaping up nicely! Only thing I noticed what his head from front to back is a little short, but outside of that, very nice work.

 

I have a quick question for you. How in the name of "PETE" did you get the caps to work?

 

I really want to get them right on Maul, but we never quite figured it out on Brena. Any help would really be appreceated.

Looks great. Only thing I don't like is that strand of hair coming down on his face. That is a classic comic book or cartoon interpretation, but I think it clashes with the overall "more realistic" feel of the rest of the model. It would need some REinterpretation, but then maybe people know Exar to be like this so they want it like this. I sure would have loved to try to skin this man! Too bad I'm too slow and have too little time. Maybe once it's released

hey cheshire

the caps weren't too hard, it was just a process of elimination - i created the caps at the end of each model, seperated them and used the correct naming conventions for each

ie. end of leg cap, at top of knee, is r_leg_cap_hips_off

and cap at end of hips at knee is hips_cap_r_leg_off , etc

then

i had them linked to the appropriate body part - r_leg_cap_hips_off was linked to the R_leg mesh part

and i bound it to the skeleton with teh same weights as the corresponding verts on the R_leg

ie. all verts at top of r_leg were to the rtibia, so the r_leg_cap went to rtibia

and so on

so for example, - between head and torso caps -

 

head_cap_torso_off ---> linked to Head

bound to cervical bone, as were verts at bottom of neck

 

torso_cap_head_off ---> linked to Torso

bound to cervical bone, as were verts at bottom of neck

 

you have to make sure it is facing the correct direction first, ie towards outside of model, etc - if it is linked properly and is not showing up still, what you might want to try is either inverting the polys or doing the inside-out fix i was talking about with several ppl otherwise

if people would like, i could put up a quick tutorial about how to fix errors some receive within assimilate or in-game, as i've ran into a few here and there

i've cut the polycount down a *lot*

i managed to sever out about a thousand polies. For now, i just want to release it without LODs, before when it was up around 4000 polys (4230 i believe to be exact), i was gonna include LODs but i have it down to about 3200 now, which is pushing things a bit for the model but it will run fine on a decent system. I don't anticipate too many ppl using exar on any given server, so it shouldn't strain things too much. On my next model i plan to make a full LOD set, 4 models total for it. With exar things just proved too much difficulty at the moment, i haven't had enough time lately to get some things done on him, and i feel like moving on soon before i get too sick of him

yowzah! he's looking awesome. he's looking like he has that confident (COCKY) stare now. i noticed that in the second shot he doesn't have his cape/shoulder pads ... is that just how the model for the blue team is, or did you do what absath/bloodriot did w/ being able to remove certain model parts at will?

 

looking great, sith! can't wait for his release.

heheh delmar i was just kidding about being snubbed

but i do like the fact about this, i think the people who actuallywant to use exar as opposed to Vader, or, say, one i'm helping a bit on, yoda, is that it is a smaller audience showing interest.

and for his blue skin, i decided to remove his armor. For some reason however, when you cut him in half, his armor and cape reappear!
