Monk has it perfectly, Yoda is the ideal Jedi, and the ideal Jedi doesn't want special dispensations or attatchment to material goods--such things lead to the dark side ;) Look at Yoda's room, it consists of some stools and that's about it. Even the way he dresses--he's not wearing a fancy uniform that sets him above, just regular Jedi robes.

Look at ESB, the first test he gives Luke is about attatchement to material goods (the lamp, and I would say Luke passes it since he's willing to give it up pretty easily).

well, it's OT but i don't think that luke passed the test since he didn't give up his stuff. IIRC he didn't give up his stuff, the conversation between him and yoda just turned and yoda agreed to take luke with him

oh and btw, all you guys are talking about things a jedi doesn't crave on? look at mace, he has a special lightsaber.

'nuff said, he's a bad guy :)

Actually Luke says that Yoda can have the lamp 'Artoo, let him have it' Mace is much younger than Yoda, and much less wise and less rooted in the Jedi Code--remember the look Yoda shoots him when he talks about Arrogance?...
