Darklighter
You know what you're absolutely right. Now that we know minor elements of the films are taken from ancient culture well known to vryone, I guess we all hate Star Wars now. Everything has an influence on everything else, nothing is just made up from scratch. 'All art comes from other art' is a famous quote. I suppose the galaxy in which the films are set is a little bit like our own galaxy, therefore Star Wars is a rip-off in that respect. Did you enjoy the films? How many times have you seen the originals, and not just to nickpick, but for the pure fun of it? Does it really matter that these aspects have influenced the films? We love it because it's Star Wars.
deadpool99
I love all the movies except Episode 1. And it really is JarJar's fault!
drevilhsx
Lucas has publicly stated that he borrowed the plot for Star Wars from Japanese director Kurosawa's film 'The Hidden Fortress'. It even has 2 bumbling peasants, one tall one short, that add comic relief. Any guesses who that duo could be? Anyways... who cares? They're very different movies in whole and we should be glad we had lucas to inspire us the way Kurosawa inspired him.
Darklighter
Your right, Jar Jar did screw up the whole thing. Justin !! deadpool99
Thats awsome that Lucas admitted that, I have more respect for him now. BUT HE WILL LOSE THAT RESPECT SHALL HE FAIL TO MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THE LIFE OF YOUNG YODA!

Jahs
"King Arthur of Camelot" Tis about a young Prince, who with the help of a sorcerer/Merlin, a Sword and 'the Force' saves a Queen and defeats the Black Knight with the help of his Roundtable aides. Some of the X-wing battles were taken from ww2 Dogfight movies. So what? I love Star Wars anyway... Ooops I think we just hit a wookie!

MotionMan
Why watch the movies then? Or why post here? The fact is everything is a rip off of everything. If we sit down and try to nit pick everything then we would find out nothing is really original. All I care about is that the man has made these movies that millions of people enjoy. He isnt trying to win any oscars. All he wants to do is tell a story. A story that has been in his head for decades. Good job George. Keep up the good work:thumbsup:
Vestril
Could somebody do me a favor and name a recent plot that isn't based off of a previous story? Good authors get ideas from a variety of sources and combine them. There are no really original ideas any more, they all tie into older ideas, this is the way of the world. Ferox
hehe i took a english lit course last semister in college called " search for the holy grail". not it wasnt a movie about monty python although the professor ruled and we watched it in class haha. it was about what is called the "hero myth"... this type of story is thousands of years old and you still see it today. arthurian legend one of the hero myths.. as is star wars, we read books that you would think " wtf does this have to do with arthur" but when you really analized it you thought .. .damn i can see all the common elements. well anyways THANK you so much for enlightening me.. wow i didnt notice that the force is basically taken from budhist religion duh hehe you are just so wise and all knowing. you cant move stuff around with chi.. its just your inner force its similiar but theres other elements added into it. the sides of the force " ying yang" plus a little magic. Bluezman
OMFG, you really need to get a clue. It is not that StarWars borrowed ideas from other sagas or ancient myths. IT IS THE WHOLE FU<>ING POINT ABOUT STARWARS!!! George Lucas did not admit that he took ideas from somewhere else. AGAIN, IT WAS HIS WHOLE FU<>ING POINT ABOUT THE WHOLE THING!!! (Jeez) He said, the idea about StarWars was to take great elements like Good vs. Evil, a tragical hero, Showdown scenes like in Westerns, Cult elements, religious elements etc. and bring this close to the kids because they don't know this anymore. And besides: The movies are not good or entertaining although the stuff is borrowed from somewhere else. They are good and entertaining BECAUSE stuff was taken from somewhere else IT IS THE WHOLE FU<>INK POINT ABOUT STARWARS!!! Everyone in the audience who knows a thing about literature sees these parallels and smiles at them because they are so neatly woven into a new story. Sure, you can enjoy the movies by just watching them but the real kick you get once you know where it all comes from. Lucas does that with everything. The whole architecture in the movies is based on actual architecture that does exist (like Mos Eisley/Tattoine = traditional architecture in Tunisia (that's Africa by the way, not Mexico ...) mixed with Science Fiction elements. Taking known elements and combine them with new ones to create something completely new. And again: THAT IS THE WHOLE FU<>ING POINT ABOUT ARCHITECTURE IN STARWARS!!! Does anyone NOT get the picture by now? (Jeez...)

DarthVenom
Originally posted by dorain8 hmm lets see, go watch all the documentaries on starwars you will undeerstand that lucas explains the origins of vader's mask The idea of Darth Vaders Mask actually came about when the concept artist for EPIV drew a picture of Darth Vader boarding Princess Leia's ship from the vacum of space, and he obviously had to have some breathing equipment/helmet to do this... Lucas liked the look and decided to keep it... He was originally just going to be mutilated.
