Death Star Mix Up

i'm wondering y Lucas decided 2 show the death star in ep2, in the Essential Chronology, an engineer named Bevel Lemelisk(hired by Tarkin) originally designed the death star at the maw installation approx. 3 yrs be4 ep4. also if palpatine had the plans 4 a death star, how come it took almost 20yrs 2 build the thing. is Lucas contradicting the Expanded Universe or did Lemelisk improve (lol) the death star designs.

Well. . .it's a space station the size of a small planet. can you imagine the sheer dynamics of construction? 20 years? The engineers should be commended. As far as the EU, it often comes into conflict with the films so, as I've learned in these forums, it is best to leave the EU in it's own separate universe. :D

Well, Palpatine obviously didn't start building it as soon as he got the plans i'm guessing, because he didn't have quite enough power to order such a thing..........but as to the time it would take to build one......i don't think it would take much more than 5 years......if you think about it.....most BIG building projects employ, like 20 people building? And it takes a couple months perhaps for those people to build big ol things.... And then the Empire probably used, like a million people to build it's death star, not counting the building droids they undoubtedly used...so it would be built quicker.....and he could ALSO have the thousands of planets in the empire assigned to build one specific part of the death star....not enough that you could ever guess what it was for.......but enough that it would greatly quicken the build time.

Except that the second one was bigger and more powerful...it makes little sense for them to be built at around the same time...

Unless Palpatine knew/foresaw the Rebels destroying the first one, and the first one was smaller...a perfect decoy, but if they were to fail, still powerful enough to be a functioning weapon

I don't think that that would be an intelligent expediture of resources...I don't really think it accomplished anything either, I mean...what was the point of this decoy?...

(sorry, but it serves you right for trying :p)

Dooku dies before he can build it, and there wasnt any blue prints or anything to go with it, just an image, so it might just be the thought of a death star(which palpy knows of, and later actually builds it). NO design or anything.

Perhaps that thing carried not just the image, but also plans for building the Death Star.......however i highly doubt he would begin construction of it before he became the Emperor, so then nobody could stop him

And using the original Death Star as a decoy seems like a really stupid idea...because the alliance probably gained a LOT of support after they blew up the first one.
