Commander 598 Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 I wanna know what everyone favorite WWII tank is.
Taarkin Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 Panzer series? There's a bunch of different kinds of Panzers, Tiger and King Tiger included. For sheer "Holy s***!" factor, I'd go with the Pz VIII Maus. Sure it was as mobile as a grain silo, but it was more than TWICE as big as the next biggest tank.
Gold leader Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 T-34. Those basically won the war on the East Front.

By Panzer Series I mean all that were known and called Panzer(I-IV) and were little changed between them. For those that don't know Panzer is German for Tank.
Taarkin Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 What about the Panzer V(Panther)? Most think it was the best WWII tank.
Commander 598 Posted June 25, 2002 Author Posted June 25, 2002 That goes with the Panzer series. personally I think the best WWII tank was either the King Tiger, or the JS-2 No one knows what the hell that last one is do they?
Jem Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 I don't admire nor pay much attention to anything army/war related...
Taarkin Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 Another interesting tank The Soviet T-35. Armed with a 75mm howitzer, 2 45mm guns and 4+ machine guns. Also, it sucked ass.
random human Posted June 25, 2002 Posted June 25, 2002 Originally posted by Commander 598 For those that don't know Panzer is German for Tank. that's not true. Panzer is short for panzerkampfwagen which means armored fighting vehicle. if anything panzer means armored and kampfwagen means tank.
Commander 598 Posted June 26, 2002 Author Posted June 26, 2002 The JS-2 was armed with a 12.7mm(.50) mg, and a 122mm main gun. A JS-2 armed with a D-25T Main Gun. It uses a T-Shaped muzzle brake similar to that of the US M48 Patton. that's not true. Panzer is short for panzerkampfwagen which means armored fighting vehicle. if anything panzer means armored and kampfwagen means tank. It was a rough translation. When I hear Panzer I don't think AFV, I think of the Panzer, a tank.

Then what are you doing in a thread containing only "army/war related" material? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I forgot to post a link to the JS-2 in comparison to its German Counter parts. CLICK HERE- Coincidently its a Russian site.
Taarkin Posted June 26, 2002 Posted June 26, 2002 That's a big gun. 380mm! That's nearly the size of the guns on the Bismark!
Commander 598 Posted June 26, 2002 Author Posted June 26, 2002 I just bet the projectile falls to the ground as soon as it gets out of the barrel. Short Barrel=Low Velocity
milkshake Posted June 26, 2002 Posted June 26, 2002 Ya, and with all the charges needed to shift that huge badass round, i'll bet it moves like a rock. Easy Meal on wheels. Or tracks. Whatever.

Zargon Posted June 27, 2002 Posted June 27, 2002 Originally posted by Commander 598 Short Barrel=Low Velocity Soprta backwards isn't it? It gets all its velocity from the power going off, that has nothing to do with barrel length, if anything it equals less friction which would speed it up...however, less barrel also = less rifling = less accurate.....
Commander 598 Posted June 27, 2002 Author Posted June 27, 2002 Well then why do rifles that use ths ame bullets as handguns have a higher muzzle velocity? I own a rifle that uses 9x19mm rds. Hi-Point Model 995 Carbine

Once the shell leaves the barrel, it moves only via inertia. The longer it's inside the barrel, the more time the explosion has to propell it.
