"Hey - we have this great new technology. What should we do with it?"

"Not sure, but there is almost a cult following for (insert title here). Should we milk it?"

"Yeah. With the new technology, we will draw new fans. The (insert title here) history is pretty set though. Think anyone will notice if we fudge a few details and generally re-write it to make it fit our plot and/or planned special effects?"

"Naa... I don't think they will notice at all..."

Is the above conversation about Monkey Island? Or Star Wars? There is a signpost up ahead... Your next stop... (Insert Twilight Zone music here)

i know one thing that MI5 DOESN'T need! It doesn't need Mario/Zelda like concepts such as "ship battling" and "monkey kombat".

******I still think the individual developers who came up with this garbage should be sent back to their dimwitted tasks of making adventure games for consoles where tedious button pressing is a way of life.************ -pardon my language

*The developers are reasonable in their use of graphics and sound given the available technologies and funding. So, im not fussing over those issues.

*Controls could be made better. EMI had worst controls, partly because it was in 3d and changing to gamepad or joystick from traditional mouse was kind of awkward. I think of EMI as experimental use of 3d so the game to me is somewhat foreign to the MI series.

*Content should not be so outlandish such as gigantic fighting Lechuck versus Monkey. I would like to see another surprise ending such as MI2 carnival ending and not this sappy ending of MI3 or the dramatic reunion of Elaine and Herman T in MI4. The developers really ruined it with Herman being Elaine's grandpa. Why did they make Herman short and have a lack of memory? In MI2 he was tall, a philosopher, and comical. Are those developers really running out of ideas to have to make Herman more than a supporting character? Now, he's the governor? Geez.

*I really think the latest MI games would be more challenging if Guybrush picked up more objects that had no use except only to throw the gamer off. Even after I beat an MI game, I continue to think about some the objects I did not use and where it might fit. The best games are the ones where you keep thinking even after beating them. Also more object interactivity would be good. The best example of this which I love is the MI2 library on Phatt Island. I love that cardcatalog and the librarian who gives you the library card in which you choose the information on it.

i was just responding to the thread question. We are all glad that new MI games comes out, but I can still be lovingly critical about what lucasarts is doing. My ranting doesn't have any effect whether new MI games come out anyway. I'm very optimistic that MI5 will hopefully be better though.

Even if MI5 turns out bad, im still going to buy it and play it and be critical of it. A good MI5 would redeem a lot of mistakes. But, a bad MI5 would make me push for an MI6.

Because it'll turn into Nightmare on Elm Street. If they'd left that as just one film, and not milked it, then it would probably be held in as high regard as the Exorcist in the horror movie stakes. Instead, we think of it as a tacky series of bad films. Because of the poor sequels, people forget the original was really quite good.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ron Gilbert returning to make MI5 is much like George Lucas making the Star Wars prequels...back in 1997 I heard an interview with George and he revealed that he would direct the prequels I was very happy about this because I thought George Lucas was a good director, yet after viewing Episode 1 it left me with bitter resentment for sillt old George...ruining his movies. I think Ron Gilbert would have the same affect, if MI5 was garbage, Gilbert would be just like George.

(That makes no sense)
