Man, I've been wasting paragraphs upon paragraphs of reasons why Palpatine is Sidious in the Sidious vs. Yoda thread, and I didn't even see this one! ARGH! Well, you can go there to see why I think they're the same.

If you think the announcer for JKII multiplayer sucks ("The Force is (not) with you.") you MUST check out this thread.

Yah I believe that they are the same person, but the question still stands: why is GL still keeping it ambiguous?

all the evidence points to them being the same person, and we are not retards, and we know how it all ends, so why the hell does he still keep it ambiguous???

Because the only thing he ever made money off of was his Star Wars franchise and he just likes to be that way. They interviewed him when EP 1 came out and everything he said was as if he's only telling half of the truth. Don't get me wrong, Star Wars movies are really good.

Because if you are watching the Star Wars saga for the first time you have to be surprised. I mean we all have seen the OT right? so we know what will happen. He is maybe doing this for the people who havent seen the OT and will be surprised by this.

We are all spoiled from already knowing whats going to happen.

Thats why it is hard for some to accept that Sidious is palpatine. They are expecting a big surprise, when in fact sidious is palpatine. There are so many in your face obvious clues to this.

The clone nonsense comes from the EU books:rolleyes:

Remember superman 3 where he went evil and there was two of him? I reckon that sommat like that could be done. MAybe he has a split personality and like when he is the good one he thinks what he is doing is right but reallt he is being influence by his second evil personality. Then he would have to fight himself in ep3 and it would be really freaky if they did it right. Otherwise it is too obvious and crap.

Only as a way of toying with the crowd, but also bringing up something that I argued back in Ep1 as a hypothetical but possible plot twist:

1. Darth Sidious. He's evil, he wants the Republic for himself. He's got skillz, but no backing. (The Jedi kinda stand in the way.)

2. Sidious goes to the planet of clonepeople, and chooses one of himself. Same general intellect/personality set, more agreeable, NO introduction to Force training in any way. Keep him programmably susceptible for influence by Sidious, but leave him largely independent, as he has Sidious's ambition and drive; he'll just do it the legal way.

3. Palpatine can hobnob with the Jedi goobersmoochers all he wants, because he isn't Dark-side aligned. He's just a politician.

This gives him the ability to work on two fronts, with complete anonymity: The Chancellor side, setting the stage in extra-long term consideration (laying seeds to take fruition 2-3 decades later); and the Darth side, exploiting the circumstances that his cloned doppleganger have laid for him. That gives the Chancellor complete justification for going to war; for locking down on the Jedi whose time has come, and they're the ONLY Force users that can be behind all the things to come in Ep3, blah blah. Once Palpatine has secured Emperorship, Sidious removes him from the board, and walks right in.

Scapegoats and plausible deniability. Of course, the way Lucas writes, it'll be an Ewok behind the cloak or something.

I was debating this in Yoda Vs. DS :Clash of Titans topic with Shadow Angel.

1st of all, Shadow Angel stands with DS is EP.

2nd. Emperor palpatine/Darth Sidious hide his Dark Side aura in front of the Jedi Council by using a YSALAMIRI

So the Jedi Council couldnt detect Palpatines' Dark Force.:lightning

Make sense?:c3po:

No, doesn't make sense because Ysalamiri are not part of the SW canon but the EU. Besides, even if Lucas decided to throw the EU a bone by including Ysalamiri, the "bubble in the Force" that a Ysalamiri would use is very easily detectable by a Jedi. It's a deadzone. Ysalamiri are good for rendering a Jedi's powers useless, however, they'd be terrible for this kind of subterfuge.

If you watch the Prequels, and keep track of the appearances of the cloaked Darth Sidious, you'll notice that he only appears under two circumstances.

1) He's dealing with his pawns, he doesn't want them to know who he really is (but either the Niemoidians figured it out or Dooku was just giving Obi-Wan crap back on Geonesis--which is very possible).

Or 2) he's appearing with his Apprentice on Coruscant. Think about it, his Apprentice is his hand in the universe; he's the brain, they're the brawn. Darth Maul has to go out there and slaughter Jedi while Darth Tyranus has to go out there, slaughter Jedi and convince systems to secede from the Republic by convincing them that it is corrupt (that Palpatine, the Chancellor of the Republic in particular, is corrupt). If Palpatine went uncloaked to meet with his Apprentice and they were identified, it would ruin all of his plans because either his Apprentice hasn't been revealed yet but will have to do his dirty-work someday, or because his Apprentice is a major figure in the universe who people need to think is allied against him.

I don't think it's about ambiguity, but about common-sense and maybe a bit of paranoia on Palpatine's side.

Well mister kretz... could be POSSIBLE that the chancellor is a, gasp, CLONE of emporer palpatine? Ever think of THAT? Theres your "I am your father" plot twist imo. The emperor could be controlling the chancellor a la dark side, eh? If this counts as the same person, then I'd say yes, but whmmmmmmmmm.

The ysalamiri only came in the EU. And................

Darth Kaan Yeah but....Yoda smokes the dagobah green and he is Palpatines Father.

Why does everyone insist that yoda smokes herb? I'm getting really sick of seeing this, because yoda is one of my most favorite characters. Grow up already for crying out loud!:horn:
