Loop
http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/starwars_dev_boards.html ^Yet another long post on the official forums, except that this one indicates the possibility of dropping the entire outcast system, which to me says that the developers may be a little lost. Or a lot lost. I mean, beta is in seven days, launch in five months; is this really the time to be going back and crossing out fundamental rules like outcasting? So, what now? Just when I get comfortable with the idea of outcasting, I find out that it'll probably be removed anyways. At the very least, it'll undergo some serious modifications. Another interesting point brought up on the official boards is how little we actually know about this game. Sure, we know the names of planets, and some skills, and have a basic understanding of how things are supposed to work, but we really don't know anything about the game mechanics. We don't know how skills will be put to use, we don't know the details of combat. Six months ago, this wouldn't be a problem, but now it's crunch time. These things should be known. I'm thinking that maybe it's time to join the Star Wars Combine. Or what the hell, maybe I should just go all-out and write my own MUD - at least I'll have the rules worked out. Discuss. Koffin
well the game is still in the development stage. Lots of things are going to change before the final product, you have to kind of expect it. If it isnt going to change, that would make it finished and ready for release.
Wraith 8
but is it that bad? so you realy cant fight as well as in other games..... well to bad for the guys and girls who want that. its an RPG not a jedi knight or other shoot em up.

FunClown
I think the outcasting system does need some tweaking. For instance if a newb accidently or ignorantly attacks someone who is of the same faction and takes one point of one of the other players' health bars they could be outcasted for as long as they play that character. I think perhaps outcasting could be tweaked to make it you are automatically forgiven after a certain period of time. Beta will definitely be the time this will be tweaked. Sith Inquisitor
I understand what is being said in terms of this not being Counterstrike or Quake. True, the MMORPG is about interaction and character development. But it is Star Wars, and there will be battles, skirmishes, confrontations. What I would like them to do is release a trailer showing different aspects of the combat system. Space combat, blaster to blaster, and yes, a jedi in action with a lightsaber. Just to have an idea of what the system will look like. Especially since I am considering being a Marksman.
Triple R7x
I would have to agree with FunClown on this... Someone shouldn't be outcasted for as long as they play (Or untill they creat another person), it should all ride upon the severity of their 'crime.' Wraith 8
outcasting means: when you shoot one of your own that you will become an outcast.. a nobody
Koffin
...and you would not be able to enter towns or cities that considered you an outcast. Well not untill the town or the player you killed forgave you. Also you could not initiate PvP combat as an outcast.
YourGod
the whole outcasting thing never sat well with me...however nice it would be to give yourself a sense of security that no one will attack you because they 2 would fear outcasting, combat is also a key part in the game. perhaps there could be a sort of system of "safe zones", where you cannot fight, or it would be unwise to fight...like say there is a town surrounded by npc turrets & gaurds & what not that are programed to attack & obliterate any hostile characters, therefore, if you wanted safety, you could find it, but it should cost $$ or sumthin like that, so that the safety comes at a price, & isn't jus like some "safe base" you could run to as though you were playin tag. any feedback? setsuko
Replying to every design change with a "ooh, the game will be crippled because feature X might be changed!" is silly, uninformed and immature. It's the opposite, I mean, if Verant/Lucasart decided not to tweak or try out new systems and rules in the following 4-6 month, then I would be outraged. For the game to be its best, it is necessary to try out more than one idea. To find out what works ingame and what doesn't. To judge these design ideas by what you believe works in your imagined version of the game is pretty daft. Save the outcries until you actually play the game. Koffin
Replying to every design change with a "ooh, the game will be crippled because feature X might be changed!" is silly, Oh yeah, well what if feature X is being multiplayer. If they take that away then the game probably would go down the tubes. At least as a MORPG.

setsuko
Bump alert! Rule of thumb: if a thread is really old, like two weeks, it's better to make a new thread than ressurect the old one.
