LOUman
Hey there. The program "Behind the Magic" says that Darth Vader looses his right arm between the battle of Yavin and the battle of Hoth when he had a confrontation with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. In Episode II Anakin looses his arm because Count Dooku chopped it off. Now, does that mean that he looses his arm twice? That's interesting, isn't it? Jaster21801
Hrm.. I may be wrong, but the Behind the Magic CD seems as if it follows EU as well as the movies. It was never mentioned in the movies that Vader's arm was cleaved but that doesn't exactly mean much. The ultimate authority is Lucas and I dunno his stance on it. I do, however, feel that if he wanted Vader's mechanical hand to be created due to Luke, then Anakin wouldn't have lost his arm in Ep II... But I'm not 100% sure. Jedi_Monk
The original source for that is Zahn's book Heir to the Empire. I believe it's something Mara Jade tells to Luke... actually, Vader loses his arm three times, counting the EU. He loses it in AotC fighting Dooku, loses it again in the battle of Yavin and has it lopped off a third time in Splinter of the Mind's Eye on Mimban. Mimban's an awesome scene, too... Luke chops it off (or maybe it was Leia... can't remember, it's been too long)... and Vader just stands up, and takes his lightsaber out of the severed hand without a second thought. Splinter of the Mind's Eye is deffinately EU at it's best. When there were still Jedi spirits, Vader was a badarse, Leia could become a real Jedi and there was still some mystisism to the Force. Redwing
Well, I guess it was just a cyborg arm that Luke cut off. ^_^
leXX
Yes, you can clearly see the mechanics in Vader's arm after Luke cuts it off so he looses his real arm in AOTC and looses his cyborg hand in ROTJ.
Lord Exar Kun27
The whole Splinter of the Mind's Eye thing: Luke learned about a mysterious Force Crystal known as the Kaiburr Crystal. Vader went lookign for it and so did Luke and Leia(this was between episodes IV and V.). When they got to the Crystal, they all met up and Luke was caught by a fallen stone. LEia took up Luke's lightsaber and defended herself, clumsily, but with her lingering FOrce taltents that she did not know she had. Vader severly injured her and luek managed to free himself. He engaged Vader for the first time here and managed to take his arm off and dirve him back into a pit. He used the Kaiburr Crystal to heal Leia and escaped with it. This is the first time that Vader foudn out Luke's last name was SKywalker and he recognized the lightsaber that he wielded. He did not know Luke's relationship to himself but figured out it was his son(becasue he had no brothers and all of Shmi's family were slaves i suppose.) This is what begun his obbsessive search for young Skywalker that leads us into ESB.

Heh, heh:D Those silly writters. They take something from the SW movies and twist it around. Like in ANH they mentioned "the clone wars" and then suddenly almost every charecter in the SW universe had a clone or evil clone of himself in the books. Also they mentioned that Light Sabers used special crystals to operate and now you have all sorts of crystals that heal and stuff:)

Lord Exar Kun27
Well the Force can be used to heal someone, why couldn't a crystal that has the Force concentrattted into it be able to heal someone, or maybe it only magnifyed Luke's abulities and allowed him to heal leia. LOUman
of course in the EU. that's what i don't like. some things do not fit together. why does George Lucas not make EVERYTHING? pretty much work.
MotionMan
If George Lucas did make everything you wouldnt see alot of what goes on in the EU universe like: Clones of everyone,An invincible Boba and the other really wacky stuff. EU is good for reading though but dont take it in as canon.
LOUman
well. i'm not really a man who likes to read books but i've read in Behind the Magic about this Emperor Clone. how was this clone possible? i mean, Darth Vader let Palpatine fall into the main reactor of Death Star II. There is no chance for rests of him to survive. the clone of palpatine was killed by Han Solo i think. the clone died and wanted to put his soul into... i don't know but a jedi (i don't remember the name) saved the person, the soul wanted to get in by taking the soul and Han shot him. ...sounds weird... ET Warrior
And how exactly is this said crystal going to have force powers? I thought the force existed in living things....not in minerals......

How can anyone put the force somewhere??? And think on the midichloreans too... stupid crystals... stupid fyyar...
Jedi_Monk
Actually, there was something called the Kibur Crystal in the second draft of Star Wars. The Crystal was supposed to augment the Force and was desperately needed by the Rebellion (which was lead by Luke's father, an elderly Jedi Knight, in this draft) and sought after by the Dark Knights of the Sith. That's where Foster got the idea.
