Haha, everytime I hear things like this, I am surprised by the sillyness of americans :D Here, we have had DVD casings for game for more than a year. I think Black and White was the first game I bought in a dvd case.

But seriously, hopefully you will get dvd casings for your games soon too. It kicks ass. *looks at her bookcase*. Yup. You don't have to put all of them in the basement, you can have them available without taking up a couple of square meters of space.

EDIT: though, this doesn't go for all games. For instance, my copy of CIV III was in a cardboard box. Smaller than usual, yes, but still a box. So there is still room from improvements.

That's the part I don't understand either. We package console games in the DVD cases, why not the PC games as well?

Yeah, and to top it off, the cd didn't even come in a cd case, just a papir sleve. :D

only 100, pages? if the pages are typical manual size then it should have at least 150 to explain basic game running plus a comprehensive in-game tutorial. :D NWN's manual was more than 200 pages long and provided less information on how to play the game than the in-game tutorial...

I'd like to put in my 2 cents on this topic. First of all I like the big boxes. I myself have been pissed lately about all of these new little boxes. Wheres the fun in those. Not half as many little ads and mail-in things. Smaller manuals. Some may say think about the trees. I say **** the trees! Long live big boxes!!!

YourGod, with that spelling, you should get even more busy at 'skool'! j/k :D

Of course it will have a big manual. But that doesn't mean you will have to read it to be able to play. I have yet to see a game where you have to read the entire manual to be able to play.

However, MMORPGs have a lot of written commands, and it's very useful to have them written down. All the emotes, PA commands, etc. So a manual is handy. And if you have never played a MMORPG before, there's a lot of things that you will have to learn, either the hard way by playing the game, or the easy way, by reading the manual.

lets see 100 pages could be broken down to something like this:

maybe 4-5 will be the credits about all the people who worked on it

about 10 or so on how to install and set up an account and that stuff

somewhere arround maybe 20+ pages on SW history (probably)

1 or 2 pages on how to contact Verant for tech support

the rest (arround 65) about how to play the game

pure speculation of course :D

I don't think the box really matters.. we ALL know what's in it.

That Star wars emblem is equal to "ch-ching" anyway (as long as teh phrase ":racer" and "Jedi power battles" don't follow, and even adding the letters MMO or RPG anywhere on the box.. well, you might as well put the register next to the display and save everyone the 3 second transit time.

Then again.. in 5 years how many "cons" will be selling 'Mint" and "Near Mint" Star Wars: Galaxies boxes..?

Simple, tells you all you need to know.. nuff said. It's a box people, it's not all that important to people who are going to buy the game whatever!

P.S. I like manuals over adobe pdfs, I like something I can refer to in game while I'm learning it's ins and outs, and I don;t like printing it out onto my paper (using my precious ink cartridges!)
