I would like to get a few more opinions, on things people either liked, disliked, found a bug or something that doesn't look right, work right, etc...so if you have a few minutes, download my map and give me your two cents worth since I'm getting close to releasing it.

Hi SunBurN

 

Latest WIP pix of Jedi Starfighter are up on the ftp site.

Just have to complete some more texturing.

As you can see I've made a start on the landing platform - VERY early stages though.

 

Did some research on shaders thismorning and checked out some of the old quake lava and cloud shaders, the Lava in particular looks cool - it distorts and warps (ID made all their lava and slime solid). Should be able to use the code from their shaders as a basis for a cool cloud layer.

 

I'll try and have it all done by Monday so you can get it all into your map ASAP.

Yes, I'm feverishly working on it as we speak! Well, I'm waiting for the standard 2 hour compile to finish! My map is being finicky though, when I added a bunch of stuff, it took a **** on me and conviently got rid of the weapon discharge and the ability to throw the lightsaber. So now I'm slowly adding everything...when I say slowly, I mean add a couple of things, then wait two hours...add a few more and so on....

 

If all goes well, I hope to have an updated beta sometime this weekend.

 

 

Fear not! It (The landing pad) should look a lot better once I get some time to work on it a bit more.

 

I don't think you understood me, I think it rocks the way it is! If you want to improve on perfection, be my guest! :)

 

Seriously though, it's looking nice, can't wait to see how it looks in my map!!

Ok, Monsoontide has finished with his Jedi Starfighter Prefab and I've put it in my map and it's compilng as we speak! If all goes well, I'll be posting an updated beta sometime today or early tomorrow. Stay posted for more details :)

Hey, I'm not questioning "rebel_monkey" :)

 

That name "darth viagra" is left over from a server I was on where most of the players had names similar to that, and they were all starting with the name "darth". I just haven't changed it. I usually go by "obiwannahelpudie" or "SunBurN". I guess that tells you how long it's been since I actually played as opposed to making maps! :D

Just a quick note if you've checked out the latest screenshots of this project on SunBurN's site, the textures on the jedi starfighter are back to front.

Never fear, I've taken care of this and it's all fixed now.

 

I've also made a cloudlayer shader for SunBurn which may be incorporated into the map - essentially just a moving black cloud that obscures the stars behind to give a bit of atmosphere (A compromise between all stormy/cloudy and all Stars) - so long as it works in the map properly.

Monsoontide, I know this is off topic, but could you host Darth Syrups ForceMod on your FTP for beta testing? The Forcemod is based on Jedimod 1.2 and implements level 4 force powers. In addition it has the Jetpack. Im posting this in this thread because there is no way to PM you. Sorry Sunburn. Didn't mean to get your thread off topic.

That's ok keo, it sounds interesting...

 

Update on the map Monsoontide and I are working on. I've had a few problems with it and Monsoontide has been nice enough to help me out. Hopefully the problems with the map will be resolved and a final beta version can be released (sometime in the next few weeks) before the final public release of it. I am however considering within the next week releasing a smaller version of the map that was fully working without any problems as a duel map. If I do, I'll make an announcement here.

Ok here's an update for any of you that are still interested :)

 

There has been the ongoing problem of not being able to see weapons dischage which is most likley due to the size of the map (ie it's all one room for the most part). Monsoontide and I have been working on it and it's still having the same problem despite many, many different things that have been tried to rectify the problem. From trying the usual fixes, to completely removing everything from the map (thanks to Monsoontide for that) and adding it back in small chunks at a time.

 

To this end, the map was put back together following all of the good standards for map making and some changes were made to the landscape for both astetic purposes, and to try and block vis so it doesn't have to draw as much at once. More may be needed, and it may turn out that I'll have to either shorten the size of the map a bit, or put a wall up sectioning off the map. Not sure how this will play out, but I'm not giving up and I will solve this problem.

 

The good news is, I'm very close to releasing a smaller version of the map that is intended for duel, however I will leave the FFa option in there so lightsabers only can be played. I will add a few weapons since even though it's smaller than the full version, it's still quite large in it's own right! Btw, there are no weapons problems with this version.

 

There are also a bunch of cool effects that accent the map nicely some of which have been custom made my Monsoontide. Well that's about it, I'll let everyone know when they can dl it form jedioutcastmaps.

Sorry I didn't get back to you Keo718 but I haven't been able to access this forum for some time.

 

On a brighter note, here are some screenshots of the latest build of the full map - it's still missing some lighting effects to contrast the red light and make the black areas more visable.

 

Start points are currently provided for FFA, Team FFA, Jedi-Master and there's a ysalamiri for those who play Kill The Fool.

 

There are currently at least one of each weapon available at well as pickups/powerups.

 

I've narrowed the weapons fire problem down to the size/visable distance of the map. Face the edges of the map and everything is fine. Face the center and while the weapon works it's discharge is frequently invisable.
