BCanr2d2
I think this thread got out of hand on the first page, but has meandered on for another 6 pages! So much for the religious types, they even forget that they should be following one of the ten commandments: Love Thy Neighbour, and another: Do unto others as you have them do unto you.... You can't even follow these simple "rules" that are part of your beliefs, yet you tell us we are the heathens and pagans? Many of us have posted that the Bible is written in parables, or in otherwords metaphorically, not literally. It is only the Roman Catholic interpretation of the Bible in recent times (500 yrs) that has concentrated on the literal. Whether you be Catholic, or of any other Christian belief, remember WHEN they started to interpret the Bible literally, after all, these other Christian religions bloomed from Roman Catholicism.... As for the Bible, it wasn't actually written at the time of Jesus, best sources have it to 70 yrs after his death, which is at least 2-3 generations for the accepted length of life back then. For stories to remain true to their source, this is a long link, it is a case of chinese whispers by this stage. No one is saying these things didn't happen, after all, many of the same events are recorded more than once in history. Many events in the Bible have been found in latin (roman) text, roman records, as well as other races of the time when the Bible is recording. Many places do exist, they are not made up places. Soddom and Gamorrah is an example of this, where they believed an earthquake or volcanic eruption caused the "fire and brimstone" that is recorded in the Bible. I agree that the majority of us non-religious types have asked for proof to certain theories that have been down trodden, give us some proof, or solid reason as to the non-belief in that theory. There are such things as scientific christians, that allow their beliefs in creation and evolution to co-exist. They do not use a literal interpretation of the Bible........... FatalStrike
- You can't be sure the world would be better off without relegion since no civillization in recorded history has existed for a significant period of time without some sort of spiritual practice. - Morals and Ethical vlaues come directly from relegious beliefs. The concept of "thou shalt not kill" was completely alien to many cultures. Think of all the basic human rights that would be absent from our culture without relegious teaching. - Wars are started in the name of relegion, not because of it. Anyone who actually reads a holy book understands that none of them want you to kill anyone. However this will not stop mad man from using relegion as a tool to recruit soldiers in his own cause. Not relegions fault. - Wars do however come from political thinking and land disputes, should we abolish these practices? No. - Some of you can't get your minds around the concept of God. However that does not mean you should spout your flawed logic and cause many to become angry. - Just because someone disagrees with faith you can't tell them they are going to hell. If you are God, Jesus, maybe even a saint then I would be inclined to listen to you. However since you are most likely young and stupid like the rest of us, please do not try to assume you know God's will. This thread has grown too large and is made up entirely of morons insulting one and others core beliefs. There are some things in the world that you DO NOT FOR ANY REASON insult, this topic is one of those things. Let me solve it for you.... Evolution happens this is fact. Creationism started the process. There your debate is settled now go about your business.
GonkH8er
Your opinion does not follow that of most of the other people in this thread. The closing statement will not be one on what is true and what is not true EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION. BELIEVE WHAT YOU WANT, DONT LET OTHERS FORCE OPINIONS ONTO YOU, BUT ALSO DONT FORCE OPINIONS ON OTHERS, OR SLANDER THEIR BELIEFS Anyway, who really cares. Does it really affect our life here on earth? It's all to do with what happens afterwards. If Christians are right, they will live with their god in heaven, and atheists will burn in hell. If atheists are right, they'll live their lives to the fullest assuming there's no afterlife, and noone will ever know, because as soon as they die, it'll be eternal nothingness, and they wont be able to think about it. Either way Christians, you get the good deal. Eternity of love with your god, or not knowing you were wrong. We atheists get the blunt end of the stick. Burning in hell, or not knowing we were right. Let's just be content with where we are here and now, and forget what other people think.
