Frenchyd
"Caribbean sea, in the 17th century. Jack Sparrow, a gentleman rogue of a pirate, teams up with the daugther of a governor to stop the evil plan of a ship of dangerous pirates, led by the evil Captain Blackheart, who are trying to reverse an ancient curse thath leaves them stuck between life and dead, with the light of the moon revealing their skeletons, like some kind of undead monsters." This is the plot line to a new movie, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. It stars Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom (unf.) I mean, it's just a little bit... peculiar? Feral
Hmm...which company is producing this film? If it isn't LucasFilm, then LEC really should slap a lawsuit on these guys.

Governor Swann imbd.com says it's based on the Disney ride and is called Pirates of the Caribbean Also check out this URL http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0325980/board/nest/246916 towards the end of the page... is that comment about what inspired the Pirates of the Caribbean ride true???? Feral
It doesn't say that the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is inspired by anything; rather, it says that PotC inspired Ron Gilbert to make SoMI.
NiKo
This reminds me of the time there was a topic in here about a Disney World comercial that had the Lechuck theme in it, anyone remember that one?

Faith
heh... how cool! Ron gilbert DID get inspired to make the game off that ride... like he said "to get off the boat and explore..." Nehow... when i went on that ride in EuroDisney... im sure i saw captain smirk n guybrush (in the same clothes as SoMI (white shirt, black trousers wid buckled shoes)) havin a sword fight. And the skeleton with a steering wheel of a ship with dread locks! Captain dread? also theres two ships battling with a girl pirate swinging over the edge with a bandana on her head... elaine? and sounds strangely like the intorduction to CMI? i looked for these things after reading his interview when i went... and its amazing how many totally obvious observations you can make! it does seem abit like monkey island... but monkey island does seem to be took right out of the ride! it should be a fabulous film... orlando bloom MMMMMMMM how fit! (he play legolas in LOTR and has been in sum gap adverts) FIT!

Natty
Yeah Monkey Island was inspired by the ride- that's what I meant. Obviously wouldn't Disney hold some form of rights or copyright with Lucas Arts? (sorry I'm just thinking Jay and Silent Bob and the whole comic scene) Just curious, oh well can't wait to see it. Pity about Orlando Bloom being in it- he just irritates me but oh well
Frenchyd
Well, pirates of the carribbean never had a PLOT line. it was mearly a RIDE. but still, it is oddly like MI. I doubt they'll be able to get any money out of them, because it's different enough.
Al-back from the BigWhoop
well, if lucasarts dont have anything to do with this movie, they should at least try to get some sort of deal...

Joshi
worldofmi have been going an about this for months. if you want to see the teaser trailer, just go here. . it looks pretty cool. and it is true that ron got the idea from the pirates of the caribbean ride at disney land, but disney are using that idea for the movie. one distict thing you should notice about teh ride is the part where there are some pirates in jail trying to get the keys from the guard dog by luring him with a bone (and the dogs name in MI2 is "walt" so i think we can all jump to that conclusion) i don't think lec can get anything from disney for this because they did take parts of teh ride form them in teh first place, so as long as they dont include a chrachter named guybrush threepwood, i think they're home free (obviously there's someone on the disney crew who has played mi so there'd be someone to advise them)
Al-back from the BigWhoop
as frenchy said, pirates of tyhe carabean was merely a ride. we in mi it says taht it was based in the ride. since the storyline of te movie is a clear copy of the game's storyline, i still think lec should try some sort of deal
Feral
No, they should not. MI was inspired by PotC. I very much doubt that Disney wwere even aware of MI. Besides what could LEC hope to gain from a "deal"?
Natty
Skywalker Sound
Joshi
actually many of the newer movies from disney use THX for their sound (originally devised bu Lucasarts) so skywalker sound wouldn't do them much good except to give them sound effects they don't need. Joshi
propaganda isn't always a good thing. even for the company producing it. it could lead to people thinking that LEC is tight and would try and get money from something as small as an "idea" which may be similar to theirs. Faith
i wonder if Disney hounded Lucas Arts for money from monkey island for being inspired by a ride?Don't think so!
Al-back from the BigWhoop
wot im trying to say is: MI did some kinda advertisement to PotC ride, this movie should do some sort of advertisement to MI
Faith
the movies based on the RIDE they probably got influenced by the RIDE more than the GAME (hence PotC not MI as the title)! and i didnt know there was any link to monkey island and disney till readng an interview with ron gilbert... there was nothing in the games related to disney! I'm sure any fellow MI'er can back me up on this! yeah.... i'm rite!
Al-back from the BigWhoop
PotC is merely a RIDE, there is no governador daughter nor any other stuff that there is in the movie ron said that mi was influenced by potc, and there r injokes to prove it
