.Md3s on func_plats...

I am making a hanger map and I want to make a func_plat that goes up, and has an x-wing on it. The problem is I can't make the x-wing.md3, the physics clips surrounding it, and the brush that will be the lift, a func_plat?? Any ideas on this?

In Dad*Mad's xmas pack one of the maps have this feature. Two lifts with an x-wing on both. You may ask him.

I have two ideas:

1. Using an x-wing prefab. I don't know if there is out any.

2. q3map2 has the feature to put a model onto a surface but I've never tried it so I can't tell you much.

There's an x-wing md3 in the JK2 paks isn't there? there's a couple of x-wings on yavin....as for the clipping, put a clip brush on top of the func_plat brush, and include it in your func_plat. that might work!

The way I tried to do it was to select the lift, the physics clip and the .md3 and make them all func-plats but it wouldn't let me do it to either the the md3 or physics clip. I will try and get in contact with Dad*Mad - any other ideas?

Ehh! :) wedge is right. :)

Make the func_plat (including the clipping brushes) and press N, then enter model2 and the model's name for value.

What I don't know is: you have to specify the path to the model as in a misc_model? If this is the solution where will it draw the model in game? OR, you have to enter the targetname of a misc_model? I've never tried.

Until evening:

I found this in the q3map2 readme:

2.3.0-a18 (2002-09-21)

- misc_models can now be attached to any brush model entity. Just target the brush entity with the misc_model (select model, then entity, hit Ctrl+K)

Possible technical difficulty:

Where will the model appear relative to the func_ entity? In this case, I would assume he wants the x-wing .md3 ON TOP OF the func_plat, but where will the game draw the model? Centered on the func_plat?

I tried your idea Leslie, and I targeted first the md3 then the func_plat and pressed control - K and then repeated for the physics brush. However when I loaded the map up, the .md3 appeared higher than the lift - in mid-air and the lift wouldn't work. I then tried targetting in reverse - the func_plat first, then the .md3 and so on, but this had the same result when I loaded the map!!

It looks like you have blocked people sending you emails via lucasforums, or at least that is what it is telling me - my email is kavis99@hotmail.com - would really appreciate it if you could send me your test map, and maybe exactly what you did to get it to work - thanks a lot man!! :D
